Promote sustainability – check out School Connections

Join the next School Connections meeting. All are welcome to participate to share experiences and ideas. This group provides a forum for parents, students and educators to promote sustainability in Newton’s schools.

If your school does not yet have a Green Team, they can help to establish one. Representatives of the group participate in discussions to improve food quality and sustainability in school cafeterias and are also advocating for more in-depth climate science to be taught in our schools, as well as setting up textile recycling collection containers outside of each school building.

Annual Appeal 2019-2020

It’s that time of year and your mailbox is probably filled with worthy organizations asking for donations. The Bigelow Middle School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is one cause that doesn’t get more personal: our kids’ education. As parents and guardians of Bigelow students, we are all members of the PTO, an organization that is well worth supporting.

Why give to the PTO?

  • We underwrite programs that the Newton Public School’s budget does not cover, such as Creative Arts and Sciences and classroom technology.
  • We offer field trip scholarships.
  • We serve as an important communication channel between the school and parents.
  • We help build the community that makes Bigelow a special place for our children.

Please support these important programs with your gift to Bigelow PTO, online or by check – CLICK HERE. Matching gifts are a great way to maximize your donation and some companies double or triple your gift to education.

DONATE TO THE PTO  |  CLASS OF 2021  |  SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Bigelow is fortunate to have a powerful partnership between the school’s terrific leaders, teachers and staff as well as a dedicated and vibrant PTO. See here how your donation helps the school and our children.

Thank you for all of you who have already donated!!!!

Auditorium Renovations Update 2019-20

With the support of the PTO, PoPS, and the School Council, the Bigelow auditorium was painted during the holiday break.  This is part of our ongoing work to upgrade the auditorium and create a space that is as high-quality as the performances of our students on stage.  Previous work has included new light fixtures, new curtains, and a new storage unit for theatrical sets. The next project will be new carpeting, which is scheduled to be installed in February.  More information here and here.
