Bigelow Library’s End of Year Book Drive

Participate in Bigelow Library’s “Honor a Graduate or Staff Member”  End of Year Book Drive. When you buy a book through this website (Bound to Stay Bound Books), your donation pays for a book bound in a way to increase the lifespan of the book, and for a donor name plate placed in the book for the person you are honoring with your purchase. Help keep the Bigelow Library independent reading collection relevant, interesting, educational, and fun for all our students by purchasing a book today! Your continued support is deeply appreciated.

Please update your directory information

It is hard to believe that soon our 8th graders will be graduating Bigelow!

Over the summer we automatically remove all 8th grade information from both the PTO mailing list and the Bigelow Directory. The information in the directory will be passed along to Newton North High School,.

This is a good time to update your household contact information, so it’s correctly forward to Newton North and ready for next year if you still have children at Bigelow. But please do not change your children’s grade yet nor remove the 8th grader from either list at this point or you may miss important end of the year information.

If you have any questions, please contact us at bigelowbulldog@gmail.com

Bigelow Beautification 2017 Pictures

On April 30th, at NewtonServes Day, dozens of volunteers worked hard at Bigelow, building a fence, spreading tons of mulch, pruning and raking dozens of bags of brush, and in general sprucing up the grounds and entrance to the school.

We just received great pictures of that day. Please take a look here.

This is a good opportunity to thank again all of our Bigelow families and staff who worked for Bigelow during NewtonServes Day.

Six comedies, four actors, one night

The acclaimed Newton Nomadic Theater is back. All in the Timing is David Ives’ uproarious series of one-act comedies. Four actors, six plays, a loosely interconnected series of ridiculous sketches that will have you howling.

For this show, the entire cast are Newton Nomadic veterans. Billy Meleady (Faith Healer, Turn of the Screw, Molly Sweeney), Noni Lewis (title character in Molly Sweeney), Sarah Morrisette (young nun in Doubt), and Matt Winberg (priest in Doubt).

Directors Billy Meleady and Nicole Galland promise us an over-the-top, side splitting, 70’s drenched acid flashback of a show. This weekend’s shows are in a barn in Newton Highlands.

Friday and Saturday, 7:30 pm and Sunday, 3:00 pm – Three weeks only June 2nd -18th.  Tickets and info at NewtonNomadicTheater.org.

Classic Rock Meets the Blues with James Montgomery & Friends

James Montgomery has been one of the leading blues performers of a generation and he’s coming to Newton as part of the 3rd annual Festival of the Arts! Don’t miss James along with his 10 piece “Super Group” featuring Jimmy Vivino of The Conan O’Brien show “Basic Cable” Band!

Throughout his illustrious career, Montgomery has toured with many artists, including Aerosmith, The J. Geils Band, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, The Allman Brothers, The Steve Miller Band, The Johnny Winter Band, The Blues Brothers with (Jim Belushi and Dan Aykroyd) and others. Jimmy Vivino serves as the Music Director on the TBS late night show CONAN and has been a member of the “Basic Cable” Band since originally formed in 1993 by Bruce Springsteen’s drummer Max Weinberg.

Since 2001, Montgomery has found another home with “The Friends” a band formed by Newton resident Peter Hackel after the 9/11 attacks to help deal with a deep personal loss. Hackel lost his stepmother Paige Farley-Hackel on American Flight #11 and this performance at Newton City Hall marks the group’s 16th Anniversary of giving back to those in need, remembering the hero’s and victims of 9/11 and honoring musical legends “Gone Too Soon”.

Tickets $25.00 at www.newtoncommunitypride.org/festival and www.givemelive.com  or $30.00 at the door.

June 2nd, 7:00 pm – Meet & Greet and cash bar, 8:00 pm – Show followed by CD signing and after party

Book Drive

Burr School is partnering with PA Shaw Elementary in Dorchester to help them stock their library with much-needed books!! The school’s library collection is only a third of the size it should be. Let’s help this school build the library its kids truly deserve.

The Burr School PTO will be holding a book drive on June 4th from 3:00 – 5:00 pm in the Burr School parking lot. Please go through your bookshelves and see if there are some gems we can pass along to this local school in need. Please pass this information along to anyone who might be willing to donate some books! Hope to see you next Sunday at the book drop-off!
