Our teachers and staff members do so much for our kids throughout the year. They teach them invaluable skills, instill them with knowledge and a love of learning, and serve as intellectual role models.
So let’s say a proper thank you with a proper English tea — Bigelow-style. This year’s annual staff appreciation tea takes place on Tuesday, June 6 at 2:00 pm.
We are looking for volunteers to provide finger sandwiches, cakes, pastries, crumpets (whatever they are), fruit salad and any other delectables that go well with tea. We also need volunteers to help set up and clean up. Set up is at 12:45 and clean up is at 3:00.
All items may be dropped off the morning of the tea in the teacher’s lunchroom or put in the refrigerator there. Please drop off items no later than 12:30pm. It is most helpful if items are brought in a disposable container.
To donate or volunteer please sign up here.

The Newton SEPAC, Special Education Parent Advisory Council, is seeking nominations for the 8th Annual Special Educator Awards. The deadline for nominations is June 5th.
The Special Educator Awards are presented to Newton faculty and staff members who have done exceptional work with students receiving special education services. Parents/guardians and students may submit nominations and may nominate any staff member who they believe has done exceptional work. Past award recipients have included special education and regular education teachers, aides, BTs, secretaries, principals, and custodians.
Please note that the awards do not identify you or your child by name, to preserve the child’s confidentiality. Only the honoree is given the name of the family who nominated him or her. Please use this link to submit your nomination:

Please nominate your educator ASAP to enable your honoree to plan to attend the ceremony and bring family/friends. You do not need to nominate your child’s whole team to avoid hurt feelings. Please only nominate those who have done exceptional work.
The Awards Ceremony will be held on June 14th at Newton North High School, 457 Walnut Street, Newtonville.
The Oak Hill/Brown Middle School Speech Team and Public Speaking Course is offered each school year to students in grades 6-8 through Newton Community Education. Please come to learn what the OH/B Speech Team is all about! There will be demonstrations, performances, games, activities and treats! All Brown and Oak Hill students have the opportunity to register for the course and join the team next year. In light of that, the current team is hosting an Open House to friends, family members and potential interested students and their families. This is a fun opportunity to check out the Speech Team at the Middle School level. (Newton South High School has a state champion speech and debate team as well as a required Sophomore Speech Event for all students.) The Oak Hill/Brown Speech Team prepares students and provides them with the tools necessary for this vital life skill for middle school, high school and beyond.
Everyone is welcome! For more information, email Coach V at Kim_Vanaman@newton.k12.ma.us
