Parent Handbook available online

From the 2017-2018 Bigelow Parent Handbook

The Bigelow Parent Handbook is online at our website (www.newton.k12.ma.us/bigelow). It is filled with important information about Bigelow and the upcoming school year. Please read it carefully, especially the information about our core values, operation, and policies. In particular, all sixth grade and new students are required to read our Rules and Regulations and our Safe Busing Checklist. If your child is a sixth grader or new, please make sure that he or she reads these pages before school begins, and that you review this information with him or her. School supply lists for each grade level are printed in the back. Enclosed is a helpful page from the Parent Handbook for parents, “Guidelines for Parents,” about whom to contact when you have a question or concern.

Middle School Resources updated page

The City of Newton’s Executive Office, Health and Human Services Department and Newton Public Schools are working on promoting out-of-school time for middle schoolers. While all young people benefit from out of school time activities that help them grow and learn, middle school tends to be an age when student participation decreases.

We have updated the middle school resources webpage that we created this spring and have added resources for parents like: do-it-yourself tips and guidelines for helping children find productive ways to use their out of school time in a home-based setting and some information on seeking financial aid. We welcome any feedback and ideas you have for this page.

Maestro Musicians Academy

Based in Brookline, Lexington, and West Newton, the Maestro Musicians Academy serves ages 4-104 and specializes in teaching all instruments in both private and group instruction. They care deeply about the unique parent-teacher-student relationship that establishes the foundation for success in their lessons. The unique Parent tested, Child approved philosophy means that they’re happy to offer a free trial lesson for anyone seriously considering the Academy.

For more information, please contact Daniel at 857-756-5230 or lessons@maestromusicians.com. Find out more about the benefits of music lessons by watching this video: Music Lessons Instill Self Actualization.
