If you would like to recognize a staff member at Bigelow this holiday season, please consider donating a book in a staff member’s name to the library. A nameplate honoring the teacher, and recognizing the donor, will be placed inside a new book. Click Here to Buy a Book.
The Bigelow Library is a vibrant and exciting learning commons. Students visit daily to find a good book to read. Maintaining a library collection of both fiction and nonfiction books to meet the reading interest of our students is always a priority. The Buy a Book Fund is a wonderful way to meet this demand so that the library can maintain its vibrancy.
Thank you to all parents and families who have donated to The Buy a Book Fund in the past. Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
Thank you to everyone who bought magazines and supported the 8th grade. The money raised will help provide scholarships for the 8th grade trips to NYC and Quebec City.
It is not too late to help. You can still purchase magazines and support the 8th grade by ordering your magazines on line at www.gaschoolstore.com School ID # 2637080.
Thank you again for your support!!

Getting up to speed on the growth mindset: Parent/guardian workshop Wednesday, December 3, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Newton North High School cafeteria
Have you heard that Newton Public Schools is asking teachers and staff to explore how encouraging a “growth mindset” can motivate students to learn? Do you know that the research-based growth mindset is useful for all ages and in all settings—school, home, work, athletics?
Newton North School Council and PTSO invite ALL parents/guardians to a fun and engaging evening exploring the growth mindset. As Principal Jen Price shows you how Newton Public Schools faculty are being trained in the use of the growth mindset, you’ll learn: Effective ways to give praise, useful methods for encouraging children and teens to try new things and accept challenges, constructive ways to respond to failure and successful strategies for creating a parent-teacher dialogue about students’ development.
You will also have a chance to apply the growth mindset during an interactive challenge.
To learn more about the growth mindset, read The Significance of Grit. or view this Ted Talk by Angela Duckworth.
