Spring programs for children & adults at the Newton Community Farm

The Newton Community Farm’s spring program is now open for registration. We’ve got classes for all ages that focus on gardening, cooking, sustainable living, and exploring our surrounding natural environment.

Looking for fun-filled, hands-on, educational classes for your young one this summer? Registration for the Newton Community Farm’s summer classes for pre-school through Grade 9 is now open. With an exciting array of programs for all age groups we have something for everyone:

Farm Sprouts  – Pre-school and Kindergarten.
Little Diggers – Students entering Grades 1 and 2.
Farmer in Training  for elementary students entering Grades 3 – 5
Socially Aware Young Farmers for middle school students entering Grades 6 – 9

Summer Speech Therapy for Newton Public School Students

Enrollment is now open for the summer speech therapy program for children enrolled in the Newton Public School system. Run by Emerson College’s Robbins Speech, Language, and Hearing Center, the program provides 6 weeks of twice-weekly individual speech therapy for children ages 3-18. The program meets at the Education Building on Walnut Street in Newton and runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning July 5th and ending on August 9th for a total of 11 sessions. A+ Youth Academic Enrichment Programs

A+ Youth is an academic enrichment program that holds classes on Saturday mornings teaching English and math to students in the greater Boston area.  Courses focus on improving student skills in composition, reading, mathematics, and test-taking skills including the SAT, ISEE, and MCAS. Oak Hill/Brown Speech Team Night, April 10

You are invited to Speech Team Night, Tuesday, April 10 from 6pm – 8pm in the Oak Hill auditorium. This special event will showcase our talented students’ performances in several categories, including prose, poetry, children’s literature, duo/multiple interpretation, original oratory, declamation, demonstration and impromptu. We look forward to sharing the results of the team’s hard work and dedication, earning accolades and honors in both practice sessions and tournaments throughout Massachusetts.

The Speech Team provides students with skills that last a lifetime – the ability to present oneself in small and large groups, overcoming the fear of speaking in public, being a part of a competitive yet supportive team environment, and experiencing the excitement of major tournament competition. The Oak Hill/Brown Speech Team is a proud member of the Massachusetts Middle School Forensics League (MMSFL) and competes in MMSFL Tournaments throughout the state during the school year.

Open Houses for Highlands After School Program

The Newton Highlands After-School Program, just for middle school children is hosting an Open House for interested families on Tuesday, March 27 from 5:30-6:30 PM at Brigham House, 20 Hartford Street, Newton Highlands. This is a terrific opportunity for parents of Brown and Oak Hill students to learn more about the program as they plan for the next school year. Bridging the Generations: An Intergenerational Music Class

Join us for a special kind of music-making! This class combines all the elements of a regular music class, but it is set in a senior living facility, where the residents participate with us by singing, playing instruments, or simply watching. The class allows for and encourages interaction between the children and the seniors. With rhythm instruments, songs, play materials and movement, we create a rich musical experience for everyone.
