“Dr. Doolittle” at Watertown Children’s Theatre, Nov. 16-18

Tickets are now available for the Watertown Children’s Theatre’s upcoming production of “Dr. Doolittle,” with performances November 16 – 18 at the Arsenal Center for the Arts.

The classic tale of kindness to animals trots, crawls and flies across the stage – from the small English village of Puddleby-in-the- Marsh to the far corners of the world – in search of the oldest and wisest of earth’s creatures, the Great Pink Sea Snail!

Treatment Program for Teen Girls with Depression

The Child and Adolescent Mood Disorders Laboratory at McLean Hospital is once again recruiting depressed female adolescents (ages 13-18) for a treatment program.

Have you noticed your daughter feeling depressed? If your child is between the ages of 13 and 18 and has been feeling depressed or has been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, she could receive free cognitive behavioral therapy for 16 weeks as part of a research study in the Child and Adolescent Mood Disorders Lab at McLean Hospital. Dine Out for a Good Cause, Dec. 5

Have dinner at Fiorella’s in Newtonville (eat in or take out) on December 5 and 20% of your order will be donated to a scholarship fund established by the Newton Educational Secretaries Association (NESA).

 

Each spring the NESA awards a scholarship to one graduate from each Newton North and Newton South. Fiorella’s has graciously agreed to donate proceeds to help fund these important scholarships for families in need.

Help fund the scholarships while enjoying a delicious meal before the holiday rush! All you have to do is go to Fiorella’s (187 North St., Newtonville) for dinner between 4:00 & 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 5. Be sure to mention that you’re supporting the NESA Fundraiser.

Support Local Businesses at Auburndale Ca$h Mob, Nov. 10

Show your support for Auburndale’s local retailers, restaurants, and service providers by agreeing to spend $10 at an Auburndale business of your choice.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, the Newton Needham Chamber of Commerce will hold a press conference in front of Just Next Door (327 Auburn St.) with Mayor Setti Warren and other public officials to announce the kick-off of the a brand new Shop Local for the Holidays campaign.

Immediately following the press conference, all attendees are encouraged to engage in a “cash mob.” Similar to “flash mobs,” a cash mob is an event where a group of people gather together, but instead of singing a song or doing a dance, they agree to spend money at local businesses.

TURKEY BOWL / BIGELOW SPIRIT DAY

It’s that time for our yearly, traditional Turkey Bowl flag football game!!! 

Thursday, November 15, 2012, 3 pm at Burr Park

Show your colors that day – wear PURPLE  – be creative – come with your friends and cheer for the 8th grade teams!! 

If it is chilly, bring a warm jacket and gloves! 

Pizza, hot chocolate, sodas, cookies/baked goods, will be available to buy! Students of all grades, bring your $$$!

Proceeds go towards 8th Grade Graduation expenses.

Bigelow Magazine Drive

The Bigelow Magazine Drive, one of the important fundraisers for our school supporting field trips, creative arts, classroom equipment, etc., will kick off on Friday, November 16, 2012. A package with all necessary information to participate will be coming home with your student that day. 

 For those who are getting renewal requests for current magazine subscriptions in the mail, please note the following:

 Bigelow Middle School will not get any funds, when you use these renewal mailers. Only when renewing as follows will Bigelow get the 40 % of your subscription price paid:

1. Either online via www.gaschoolstore.com (new website of Great American Opportunities, which QSP is now part of), school/organization online ID 2637080, check the box “renewal”, (payment by credit card),

2. or through your student from the catalog with the paper order forms coming home on November 16, 2012, check the box “renewal” (cash, or checks made out to Bigelow PTO).

 If you would like to convert a regular magazine subscription to a digital magazine subscription (there are 53 magazines available in a digital format), you will be ordering them as a new subscription in one of the two ways outlined above.
