The close friends of a Bigelow family are immigrating to Newton from war-torn Syria and looking for a 2-3 bedroom apartment to rent on the north side of Newton ASAP. They are lovely, responsible and kind people. The Bigelow family is also willing to co-sign the lease for added peace of mind for the landlord. TOMORROW EVENING, please join us for our last Bigelow PTO meeting for this school year and a thank you for your tremendous volunteer service on Wednesday, May 28, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., at Julie Bourgoin’s house, 44 Whitney Road, Newtonville. Appetizers and beverages will be provided. All are welcome to attend. Community Meeting about proposed medical marijuana dispensary
Garden Remedies, Inc. has been granted a provisional license by the State of Massachusetts to open a medical marijuana dispensary at 697 Washington Street in Newtonville. They have asked the Ward 2 Aldermen to call a meeting so they can share their plans for the dispensary with the community. Dr. Karen Munkacy, the Chief Executive Officer of Garden Remedies, and members of her team will make a brief presentation and then will be available to answer questions. We will also explain the special permit process needed to approve this project.

QPR is a simple educational program that teaches ordinary citizens how to recognize a mental health emergency and how to get a person at risk the help they need. These programs are intended for adults.

5th Annual Special Educator Awards
Has someone in Newton Public Schools gone above and beyond to make a difference for your child this year?
The Newton Parent Advisory Council for Special Education (NewtonPAC) is pleased to announce that they are taking nominations for the 5th Annual Special Educator Awards. The awards honor educators in the Newton Public Schools who have made a positive difference in the life of a child with special needs.
Honorees can be in any position at NPS, and past honorees have included regular and special ed teachers, aides, principals, PE teachers, inclusion facilitators, secretaries, transportation coordinators and janitors. All those who are nominated will receive the award.
The awards will take place on Tuesday, June 3rd in the Lasker Auditorium at Newton North High School. Light refreshments will begin at 6:30, and the awards ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. The awards are a wonderful evening that mean so much to the honorees and their families and friends.
