Become a Newton School Volunteer and hear these words from a student.

  • Tutor a 2nd – 5th grade child in basic mathematics concepts once a week
    for 30-45 minutes.
  • Select your preferred school, grade, day, and time.
  • Play special math games that reinforce skills and help students gain
    confidence and competence.
  • Training, Everyday Math books and learning materials, and ongoing support
    are provided.
  • No teaching experience is needed.

Ebola Relief Benefit

The Ebola Relief Benefit afternoon will include music, African crafts, creative activities for all ages and refreshments. Children will have the opportunity to make get well cards which will be delivered by Partners in Health to patients recovering from Ebola in West Africa.

Other Highlights of the day include:

  • a Pete Seeger tribute inter-generational sing-along at 3:00 pm with Joe Pete and Ruth Rappaport
  • an Interfaith Concert for Hope and Healing at 7:00 pm featuring the Lovetones, Dukpay
  • Drumming and Dance with performers from Liberia, Rimonim youth choir of Temple Emanuel and Koleinu Community Chorus.

Camp Bauercrest is an overnight sports camp for jewish boys. For over 80 years, Bauercrest has been delivering memorable summers to young boys through healthy competition and camaraderie where they learn new skills, make friends, and share an experience that truly lasts “For A Lifetime”.

Math Tutor Available

Newton resident and college math professor with over 25 years of teaching experience is available to tutor. She teaches mathematics based on one fundamentally simple idea: students need to understand, connect and retain mathematical concepts for future learning and real-life applications.  Available for middle school students, and high school students enrolled in AP Statistics and Calculus AB & BC, Honors, ACP and CP courses. Newton Little League (merger of North, Central, and West leagues)

Registration for the 2015 Newton Little League Spring Season is now OPEN! Register your son or daughter today at www.NewtonLLBaseball.org. ‘Newton Little League’ is a new name, but based on the same great experience that children have enjoyed for decades in Newton North, Newton Central and Newton West Little Leagues!

Whether beginners or advanced players, all eligible children will be placed on a team. Player must live or go to school in the following elementary school districts: Williams, Burr, Franklin, Horace Mann, Lincoln Elliott, Underwood, Ward, Cabot or Peirce as well as Day and Bigelow Middle Schools.

Majors players (Ages 10,11,12) must register and attend the February 7th tryout, even if they played on a Majors team last year.

Next PTO Meeting – Jan 29th 8:30am

Please join us for our next PTO meeting on Thursday, Jan 29th from 8:30am to 9:30am in the Bigelow Learning Commons.  Superintendent David Fleishman and members of the Newton School Committee will make their annual visit to the Bigelow PTO.  The meeting will include a brief update on district initiatives (e.g. the new PARCC standardized test and new building plans), followed by an interactive session to answer your questions and listen to feedback.

Meet 30+ community exhibitors who help teens navigate high school pressures in order to stay safe and healthy. Get information about everything from driving and pedestrian safety to healthy eating and positive body image to stress reduction and mental health support.
