Mayor’s Summer Reading Program

Come to the Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge Kick-Off event or check out the attached flyer to learn about the challenge. Kids can begin to sign-up for the summer reading challenge on the day of the event, June 16th, by using the following link www.newtonma.gov/summerread, or by visiting the Newton Free Library.

July 4th Celebration in Newton

Kids Morning and 4 for the 4th Food Drive:
July 4th, 10:00 am – Noon Newton Centre Playground at Tyler Terrace.
Free event for children ages 3 – 12 years. Children and families are invited to join in the Grande Pet Parade, Decorated Doll Carriage Promenade, Teddy Bear Parade and Foot Races. Free ice cream, candy and drinks complete the morning celebration – courtesy of Cabot’s Ice Cream and Trader Joe’s.

4 for the 4th Food Drive
11% of Newton school children take part in the reduced lunch program. With school not in session, the summer is a time of food insecurity for these children. Please bring 4 items to Kids Morning: Bar soap, canned corn, canned pineapple, cereals, ground coffee, jelly/jam, pasta, peanut butter and jelly, soap, toilet paper, tomato paste/sauce, toothpaste, tuna, vegetable oil.

Afternoon/Evening Events:
July 4th, Noon – 10:00 pm – Albemarle Field.
The fun continues with kiddie amusement rides, craft vendor booths, food vendor booths, face painting and other childrens’ activities.

There is free music and dancing all day: from 1:00 – 6:00 pm in the Gazebo, and 6:00 – 9:00 pm on the Main Stage. At 9:00 pm, don’t miss the grand finale…a fantastic fireworks display!

Newton Community Education Summer Programs

Newton Community Education offers conveniently located, week-long summer programs for every age group, pre-school through high school. This summer they are offering programs in art, theatre, science and technology, debate, and more. Family Yoga

Thank you to all for a Successful Car Wash

Thanks to everyone who came out to support the Bigelow bake sale, car wash and raffle on Friday! A lot of cars got washed and a lot of treats were eaten. Fun was had by all and we raised more than $825 for eighth grade activities and scholarships. Special thanks to all the eighth grade volunteers and to Ms. Holman and Mr. Harrison, who washed some cars themselves!
