Bigelow Food Drive Thank you

Thank you to everyone that donated to the Bigelow Holiday Food Drive.  Due to everyone’s generosity close to 1,000 items were donated to the Newton Food Pantry.  A very special thank you to the Bigelow Student council and Jason Leone for organizing the Food Drive.  And thank you Jacquie Arbuckle for transporting all the donations to the food pantry.

Do you have an instrument that you don’t need or want anymore?

Abigail Miller, a tenth grader at Newton South High School, is running an instrument donation drive because she really enjoys playing music and hopes she can help others get the chance to love it as much as she does.

Through a partnership with Berklee College of Music, the instruments she collects will be donated to local nonprofit organizations and schools who provide music education to underserved populations. Berklee’s Office of Community and Government relations oversees a donation program to donate quality computer hardware, musical instruments, and production equipment to communities in need. Examples of their partner organizations include the Boys and Girls Clubs, various Boston Public Schools, the Haley House, Girls Rock Campaign and several locations of YMCAs.

Register soon for Newton Girls Softball, a recreational league for Newton girls in grades K-7. For more information and to register, please visit www.newtongirlssoftball.org.

The league welcomes players of all skill levels and will provide your daughter with an experience that fosters positive self-esteem, team spirit, and individual growth through personal achievement and as a team member. The Kindergarten T-Ball program continues this year. Register now, you’ll be glad you did.

2016 Registration Dates:
January 31st: Deadline to register without paying a late fee.
February 28th: Deadline to register with guaranteed placement and pair-me-with rights. A $15 late fee will be applied.

Williams Camp & Snow Auction

The Williams PTO Camp & Snow Auction is now open. Check out the day and overnight camp options, winter activities like ice skating, skiing, and watching the Providence Bruins.

You can bid on these and many more items to help raise money for the PTO – they raise 45% of their budget through auction fundraising which funds children’s programming at Williams Elementary school including Creative Arts & Sciences, Understanding Our Differences, field trips, instructional technology, physical education equipment, library books, and more.

Beat Procrastination, January 28th, 7:00 pm, Druker Auditorium:
Please join Dan Levine and Rachel Marcus of Engaging Minds, an after school learning center, for a workshop designed to help students beat procrastination! In this workshop students will learn that procrastination is not a result of being “lazy,” there is something else getting in the way of getting schoolwork done. We will help students identify what’s truly behind their procrastination. When the student understands the root problem, he/she can choose to move past the “roadblocks” and beat procrastination! For adults and

Teen Tinker Club, February 17th, 18th, and 19th, 4:00 pm, second floor Computer Center: During February vacation come play around with LEGO WeDo’s on Wednesday, Scratch on Thursday, and putting it all together Friday by coding the LEGO WeDos using Scratch. Tinker Club is brought to you with federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Grades 6-12. Space is limited, please register online (registration begins January 27th). Sign up is for all three sessions.
