10th Anniversary Celebrations for Newton Community Preservation

The CPC will hold the first in of its Newton CPA 10th birthday parties, with a focus on Nonantum, Newton Corner, and Newtonville (Wards 1 & 2), on Tuesday, November 15, from 7 to 9 pm in the Newton North High School Film Lecture Hall. Refreshments provided! Come ask questions and share your ideas about the Community Preservation Act. Add your own photos & notes about what makes Newton a community worth preserving to our interactive exhibit of community maps. Newton Girls Basketball Association (NGBA)

Registration is underway for the upcoming Newton Girls Basketball season.  Join the more than 500 players from second graders through high school level who play NGBA basketball.  This is a recreational basketball league for Newton girls and girls attending Newton schools with fun for beginners and experienced players alike!  Games are played on Saturdays for all grades, starting early December and continuing into mid-March.  Registrations are due by October 21st for Grades 3-8, November 2 for Grade 2, and November 30th for High School.  A late fee applies for registrations received after those dates.  Scholarships are available based on need; please see the website for details. Space Night for Girls!, Thurs., Oct. 27 at MIT Lincoln Laboratory

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Boston section is partnering with the Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston (ATMOB) and MIT Lincoln Laboratory for a Space Night! Girls in Grades 2 – 8 will be exposed to various hands-on workshops bringing out the excitement of space exploration, and the AMTOB will set up their telescopes for observation of the dynamic night sky! $5 registration fee includes snack and workshop supplies. An Invitation from the League of Women Voters Newton

The League of Women Voters Newton is participating in a national League education study on The Role of the Federal Government in Public Education.  An informational meeting will be held on Monday, October 3 from 7:00-9:30 p.m. in the Newton City Hall cafeteria.  We are honored to have David Fleishman, Superintendent, and Ann Koufman, Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning of the Newton Public Schools as resources for our education study discussion. The study includes questions on Common Core Standards and Equity and Funding. The meeting is open to the public, especially potential League members.
