Write Successful Essays for your College Application

Think you can write your college application essay the night before it’s due? Think again! Writing a standout essay doesn’t happen overnight. In this Newton Community education class, you’ll work with a professional writer who will help you choose your topic and improve your writing style. You’ll start by discussing what colleges are looking for, and then, you’ll write. You’ll receive weekly written feedback on your essays as well as helpful critiques from your classmates. By the end of the class, you’ll be well on your way towards completion of two Common Application essays, and you’ll get a handle on other essays your college applications may require. You can take the class at Newton North or Newton South.

Newton South – 4 Wednesdays, June 28th – July 19th, 7:00 – 8:30 pm
Newton North – 4 Thursdays, June 29th – July 20th, 7:00 – 8:30 pm

2017 Newton Schools Foundation Honor Thy Teacher

Are you looking for a way to honor and thank the exceptional teachers and staff who have motivated, educated and inspired your students to grow and achieve all year? Consider participating in Newton Schools Foundations’ Honor Thy Teacher campaign. This special program, now in its 20th year, enables families to thank teachers or other school personnel (such as a special education aide, a fine arts or music teacher, or a coach or counselor) by giving a gift to NSF in their honor.  After receiving each donation (a suggested amount is $25 per teacher/staff member), NSF will notify the honored teachers and staff of your gift; share the honoree names with the Superintendent and Principals; and list each of those honored in the Newton TAB.

You can make your tax-deductible donation on-line at www.newtonschoolsfoundation.org, or mail it to Newton Schools Foundation, P.O. Box 590020, Newton Centre, MA 02459. Please be sure to include the names of the teachers and/or staff that you are honoring.  Or look for a flyer in your mail in the coming weeks that includes a donation form.

NSF is a non-profit organization that raises funds to enhance the quality of education throughout Newton’s public schools. Your gift supports NSF initiatives including teachers’ professional development and new curricula and learning opportunities, including the following at the middle school level:

  • Middle School Peer Leadership
  • Generation Citizen
  • Integrating Coding in the Curriculum
  • Responsive Classroom Training
  • The Calculus Project

Mother’s Day Weekend Community Event and Action

Did you know that Newton has over 400 natural gas leaks from aging, underground pipes? These leaks release methane, contribute to climate change, harm our future, waste energy, and damage human health and trees. Consumers pay the cost.

Join Newton Mothers Out Front and other allies to tag the gas leaks in our town and help spread the word about this invisible hazard! Come to a rally at the Newton Free Library to hear a few words about the campaign and then head out to tag the leaks. They’ll give you the materials you need to tag.

Newton Free Library, Homer Street Entrance, 330 Homer Street
