Green Newton School Connections

Green Newton has a forum for Newton parents and teachers interested in promoting sustainability in the classroom and beyond. The group offers a setting for sharing experiences and ideas as well as support in facing challenges in implementing green initiatives in schools. This is an opportunity for Bigelow parents and staff to connect on issues of recycling, composting and school garden projects. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, November 15 at 3:45 at the Peirce School, 170 Temple Street in West Newton. Please contact bigelowbulldog@gmail.com if you are interested.

Supper Stroll was a big success!!

It was a great evening and together we raised close to $5,500, that will go towards enhancing our children’s educational experience. We hope everyone that joined us for the evening was able to reconnect with old friends and make some new ones, while building community spirit.

This would not have been possible without the hard work of Una Simmons, Bigelow PTO VP of Fundraising, who organized the event and helped everyone feel part of this amazing middle school community. Thanks!

Again, THANK YOU to all that participated and made the 2017 Supper Stroll such a success!!

Supper Stroll – THANK YOU!!

To Principal Harrison, Faculty, Supper Stroll ’17 Guests & Helpers,

Oh, what a night! Thank you for making the Bigelow PTO Supper Stroll a smashing success! It was a wonderful time to reconnect with other Bigelow parents and teachers, as well as meeting new people. Not only was it a fun, we raised close to $5,500 for our kids.

The whole Mattioli family went above and beyond creating a fabulous spot for everyone to gather and meet before dinner. The food was delicious and their home inside and out was warm and welcoming. Joanne & Doug Simpson sponsored their son’s NNHS Jazz band, they were phenomenal.

Our dinner hosts were so generous to cook and open their homes for us. Isn’t it nice to meet and share a meal?

And we also shared dessert at Sandra & Kevin Kelley’s house, where we were met with more hospitality, desserts and a roaring fire.

Thank you to everyone that made this a great night for Bigelow: Tony and Kristie Mattioli & Family, Sandra & Kevin Kelley, Michele & Dave Baxter, Michelle & Jeremy Welford, Beth & Bill Hicks, Marc & Roberta Laredo, Lynda & Dan Cotter, Gail & Eric Fitzgerald, Cindy Henry, Dan & Shana Smythe, Michael Rothstein & Nicole Annese, Joana Canedo & Jason Dyett, Caroline & Geoff Burns, Charyti & Steve Perron, Nicole Von Rekowsky, Krista & Bart Corr, Alessandra & Tomasz Grzegorczyk, Maria Farrah, Andrea Hemment, Doris Wong, Maren Rossman & Kathy Eno.

And if you do not have it on your calendar yet, make sure to save Saturday, March 24th for our Big Night!!

Sincerely,
Una

Election Day Bake Sale this Tuesday – we need your help

The 8th Grade will be hosting an Election Day Bake Sale next Tuesday, November 7th, from 7:00am-4:00pm.

This is generally a great success and we have potential to make a lot of money to help fund all sorts of 8th grade events! However, in order for it to be successful, we NEED YOUR HELP! We need parent volunteers to sell the goodies and we need all families to BAKE, BAKE, BAKE! (All Baked Goods should be Nut-Free and Individually Wrapped for efficient sales!)

Please sign up here to volunteer and/or bake!

Just to give you an idea, last year, we sold out of baked goods by 11:00am! PLEASE consider baking and/or helping out. Let’s truly make this a huge 8th grade effort and have every 8th grade family involved!

Please feel free to drop your donated items at the school or with Jen Rugani at 14 West Boulevard Rd, the day before the event. Coffee should be dropped off at the voting polls on the morning of the sale.

If you have any questions, please contact Jen Rugani (jenrugani@gmail.com) or Magda Duchnowska (froggiemagda@hotmail.com).

Please use the link below to volunteer and/or bake! Your help is very much appreciated by all the 8th Graders!

Thanksgiving “Pie in the Sky” program supports Community Servings

The Rotary Club of Newton is proud to be supporting the Thanksgiving “Pie in the Sky”
program which supports Community Servings.

With each pie you buy (or sell to a client, associate, friend or family member) you are helping to end hunger for the critically ill and housebound in Massachusetts. And a little goes a long way! Each pie you buy or sell allows one person in need to eat for a whole week. And these pies are DELICIOUS!
Make this the best year yet and help Community Servings sell 25,000 pies for their 25th anniversary. Please FORWARD this message and encourage others to support this wonderful organization!
