TEN Tables – consider hosting a dinner party

Saturday, November 3, 2017, is the Bigelow PTO TEN Tables progressive dinner!

We need Dinner Hosts and a Host for Appetizers!

Please consider opening your home to host the evening appetizer kick off or host a dinner. This event has been an enjoyable PTO fundraiser for many years at Bigelow. TEN Tables, formerly the Supper Stroll, is a progressive dinner and is held at several homes in succession on one night. A single course is served at each home. Everyone meets from 6:30-8pm at one house for drinks & light appetizers – perhaps cheese and crackers. There you receive your dinner hosts address. You then leave and go to dinner (with 6-12 other guests) from 8-10pm at your dinner hosts’ house. At 10pm everyone meets at Sandra and Kevin Kelley’s house for the dessert portion of the evening.

Tips for the TEN Tables Dinners
1. Cook what you love! OR Order out and serve from your favorite restaurant!
2. Join together:  one household cooks while the other hosts the dinner.
3. Choose recipes that can be made ahead and kept warm until guests arrive.
4. Buffet style works for dinners as does sit-down.
5. If your family is new to Bigelow, this is a great time to get to know more people!
6. The PTO can help you if you need guidance or advice. Don’t hesitate to contact us!

Please contact Una Simmons at una@ethannet.com or BigelowBulldog@gmail.com if you would like to host part of this fun evening or if you have any questions. Thank you!!!

It’s time to be outside: parents volunteers welcome

Laps at Lunch will start October 1st and parents are welcome to be a part of it. This is a great program designed by Bigelow to give students a daily opportunity to get outside for movement and fresh air. It allows students to walk laps around the inside perimeter of Burr Park once they’re done with their lunches in the cafeteria. Would you like to help? If interested please contact Mary Fitzgerald (physical education teacher) at: Mary_Fitzgerald@newton.k12.ma.us. More about the program here.

All invited to FORJ 2018-19 kick-off meeting on October 2

The first FORJ meeting of the year will be on Tuesday, October 2, 7:30-9:00 p.m., at the Angier Elementary School, 1697 Beacon St, Waban, MA 02468.  FORJ, a parent-led group in Newton, has been working for the last two years with Newton Public Schools as part of the district’s commitment to creating welcoming, supportive, and safe communities for all. Last year the work was focused in our elementary schools and this year will expand to our middle and high schools.

Did you Know? – Bigelow is on Twitter

Students and the whole school community can get up-to-the-minute updates on clubs, sports, and other Bigelow events by following the school @BulldogWoofs on Twitter.  You can read the Twitterfeed on the Bigelow website, or click on the blue button to “Follow Us” on Twitter.

By following @BulldogWoofs, families can get timely notifications sent right to their cellphones, tablets and computers! This is a great way to keep informed of meetings for new clubs, changes in sports practices and contests, upcoming events, and much much more.
