As the architect of one of the first racially integrated rock bands (Booker T. and the M.G.’s), Booker T. Jones set the cast for modern soul music. MUSEUM STORE SUNDAY / MEET THE MAKERS

Get a head start on your holiday shopping when the shops at the Jackson Homestead and the Durant-Kenrick House offer a 25 percent discount on museum store merchandise. Also Meet the Makers! Artists from Newton will show and sell their work from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (1:00 – 3:00 pm authors including Barbara Berenson, Ken Bresler, Beryl Gilfix and Lenna Kutner will be stationed in each museum and you can purchase directly from them.

The shop selection includes posters and maps of Newton, Historic Newton’s custom-made ginger-pear jam, books about the Underground Railroad and abolition, interactive toys, and hand-made candles. Each purchase supports the mission and programs of Historic Newton. Museum Store Sunday takes place at 700 museum stores around the world.

STORYTIME – THANKSGIVING

Come learn how Native people in Massachusetts grew their food. We will read a tale about the Three Sisters, the story behind growing corn, beans, and squash together. Preschoolers and their caregivers will have the chance to interact with our own three sisters crops and make a corn husk doll. Admission is Free. For information, call 617-641-9142

Newton Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC)

Does your child have an IEP or 504 plan?  Then check out the Newton Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) at newtonpac.org.  SEPAC is a volunteer organization of parents of children with special needs from preschool through high school. The council runs an online forum where parents can ask each other about special education programs, issues, policies and resources both within and outside of the public-school system.  SEPAC works directly with the school administration regarding our childrens’ special education through our school liaisons, meetings with the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and by attending Newton School Committee meetings.  In addition to sponsoring monthly speakers in Newton, the council publicizes presentations and conferences held by other SEPACs and organizations in the area.  Newton SEPAC also holds monthly board meetings – that are open to all parents – whose dates are listed on our website.  In the meantime, you can join our online community at newtonpac.org.

Election Day Bake Sale: Tuesday, Nov 6

The 8th Grade will be hosting an Election Day Bake Sale next Tuesday, November 6th, from 7:00am-8:00pm. This is generally a great success and we have potential to make a lot of money to help fund all sorts of 8th grade events! However, in order for it to be successful, we NEED YOUR HELP! We need parent volunteers to sell the goodies and we need all families to BAKE, BAKE, BAKE! (All Baked Goods should be Nut-Free and Individually Wrapped for efficient sales!)

Please sign up to volunteer and/or bake!

Volunteer at “Laps at Lunch” so our students can get some fresh air

Laps at Lunch is a Bigelow program to help our students get some fresh air in the middle of the day. At Laps at Lunch students  walk laps around the inside perimeter of Burr Park once they’re done with their lunches in the cafeteria. As a parent, you help them cross the street and monitor their walk.
