Picnic in the Park – October 17 @ Franklin Park, Boston
One School One Book at Bigelow
Please remind your child to finish reading “From the Desk of Zoe Washington” before October 14th.
Students need to read the book and think about this: “When Marcus tells Zoe he is innocent, and her grandmother agrees, Zoe begins to learn about inequality in the criminal justice system, and she sets out to find the alibi witness who can prove his innocence.” Does everyone lie? Is there ever a good time to lie? Think of the worst lie you have told… Was it “worth it”?

Participants do not need to attend a Newton school, nor do they need to be current Newton Youth Hockey players. Games are played on weekend evenings, and the season runs from December to February. For more information, please see www.newtonyouthhockey.com or email president@newtonyouthhockey.com.
Newton Youth Hockey – Learn to Play Program
The Learn to Play program is an introduction to hockey for boys and girls aged 5 through 10. Participants follow a progression of drills designed to teach them the core hockey skills of skating, stick handling, passing, and shooting. We place a strong emphasis on having fun, using a variety of games, challenges, and scrimmages as key components of the program. Participants skate twice per week (once on Saturday and once on Sunday). One day is structured around skills progression while the other day is dedicated to scrimmages. This is a 16-week program that begins in mid-November and ends in mid-March.
Saturdays at Ryan Arena, Watertown: 9:20-10:10 or 10:20-11:10 (groups split by age)
Sundays at Daly Rink, Newton: 8:00AMInfo and registration: https://www.leagueathletics.com/Page.asp?n=11670&org=newtonyouthhockey.com

Join Newton Cub Scout Pack 210
Boys and girls grades 1-5 are invited to join Newton Cub Scout Pack 210 (http://pack210newton.scoutlander.com). Scouting is a great opportunity to make new friendships and learn new skills. We have an exciting year planned, with fun activities including camping, hiking, outdoor activities, community service, and monthly Den/Pack meetings. Our next Pack meeting is our annual camping trip on 10/23/21 at the Blue Hills. We are also starting our grade-specific Den meetings. Please reach out, and we can let you know when the meeting for your child’s grade is. Most of the initial Den meetings will be held at the Carroll Center (770 Centre Street, Newton Center) on Thursday evenings (with masking for the indoor portion of the event), where we will talk more about the Den-level calendar and planned events for the upcoming year. The next Den meetings are the Bears/3rd graders this Thursday, October 7 at 6pm, and Tigers/Wolves (1st and 2nd grade) on Thursday, October 14 – please email for info on when the other grades are meeting. Please join us or email Chris (cadunham0901@gmail.com) to join and with questions. We look forward to a great Scouting year ahead!
