Tickets on sale now! A Cappella April!

A Cappella April! is coming to Newton South High School on Saturday, April 1. This one-night only, all-ages event features R & B/Soul/Pop a cappella group Ball in the House, with special performances by Newton student groups: Bigelow Beats, Brown Middle School A Cappella, The Northern Lights, and The Melocotones. Tickets are $15/adults and $10/students. Seating is reserved. Proceeds from this event will be used for future Creative Arts & Sciences programming.

Find your way to the Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds for our activities! Our theme is all things map-related. Step into the role of cartographer, explore our museum galleries with a scavenger hunt, examine how Newton has changed over time, and share your favorite local landmarks. All activities are free with museum admission. Suggested ages 4-12; all are welcome to drop in. The Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds is located at 286 Waverley Avenue. MBTA Youth Pass

The MBTA and the City of Newton’s Youth Pass program helps provide affordable transit access for young people with low-income. The Youth Pass is a card that can be used by eligible young adults with low incomes to purchase roughly 50% reduced one-way fares for Commuter Rail, Express Bus, and ferry.  For additional details CLICK HERE.

Beginner Class in Japanese Language and Culture

Weekly, starting March 3, 2023 | Fridays 7-8pm | On Zoom

Are you an elementary or middle school student interested in learning more about Japanese language and culture?  If so, this weekly online offering by Boston Sakura Kids is just for you!  This 8-week beginner class will teach you about the Japanese writing system, words and phrases, pop culture, traditional Japanese culture, and whatever else you’re interested in. This program is stress free, cost free, and open to middle school and elementary school students!

Junior Film Critics workshop @ Belmont World Film’s Family Festival in Newton

Belmont World Film is holding is 20th Family Festival starting this coming Saturday, January 14 in Newtonville. One of the activities includes a “Become a Junior Film Critic” workshop led by legendary arts and entertainment critic Joyce Kulhawik (she was the very first TV arts critic in Boston, in fact) and Cambridge Day food and film critic Tom Meek (who was president of the Boston Society of Film Critics for 10 years). 

The workshop is geared to children age 9+.

We are showing some terrific films fro around the world, too–85% of them are based on children’s books, and many feature subtitles (which will be read aloud through headphones for the very young). The screenings support the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in both ELA and Foreign Language in fact! The first day of screenings takes place at the West Newton Cinema, with additional days in Watertown, Cambridge, and Arlington. There is also a short virtual window for most of the films as well. Newton Southeast Little League Spring Registration is Now Open

Newton’s Southeast Little League (NSELL) offers fun and exciting baseball programs for players in grade K through 6. Rising kindergarteners are welcome in our T-ball program. The season runs from late April through the end of the school year and the league serves players who reside or attend schools within district boundaries of Memorial-Spaulding, Mason-Rice, Bowen, Angier, Countryside and Zervas.

Register by February 18th to ensure your child’s space.

NEWTON YOUTH LACROSSE SPRING 2023 REGISTRATION

Learn to play North America’s oldest team sport and the fastest game on two feet!  Newton Youth Lacrosse 2023 season registration is now open for boys in 1st through 8th grades, and beginners of any age are welcome!

NYL is dedicated to providing Newton boys and their families with a community-based developmental lacrosse program.  Boys will have an opportunity to learn the game of lacrosse while being placed on evenly balanced teams to play against neighboring townswe focus on equal playing time for all, and emphasize learning, mentorship, sportsmanship, and above all, fun!  We welcome NEW players at any age or grade (we typically have many new middle school players each year). Financial aid is available for qualifying families.
