City of Newton Veteran’s Day Event

This year the City of Newton will hold a Veterans Day Observance to acknowledge our City’s Heroes. We invite you to attend a brief ceremony as we will be recognizing Newton Veterans. Veterans Day will be observed in Newton on Friday November 11th, 2022 with a ceremony beginning promptly at 11:00 AM at the American Legion, Post #440 at 295 California Street in Newton. Mayor Ruthanne Fuller has invited the boy and girl scouts to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. The National Anthem will be performed along with the presentation of the colors by our Newton Fire & Police Honor Guard. At 10:00 AM, prior to the ceremony, we will have a donation drive supporting the troops.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your consideration and cooperation.

In Good Health,

Managing Your Child’s Stress and Anxiety in the Post-Covid World

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted our everyday lives in a way most children and adults have never experienced. In this seminar, parents and caregivers are invited to discuss how the “new normal” has impacted our children’s mental health. Dr. Swack will then provide simple tips for activating our body’s natural calming reflex in under five minutes. Find community with other caregivers, learn coping strategies, and increase well-being for you and the children in your lives.

Wednesday November 2 & Wednesday November 9, 7-9pm

Pumpkin Smash! Saturday 11/5, 1-4 pm

Bring your pumpkins to Newton’s Annual Pumpkin Smash at City Hall on Saturday November 5th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Why put your pumpkin in with your yard waste when it’s much more fun to smash it?

This family friendly event takes our orange pumpkins and turns them “green.” All our smashed pumpkins will be composted by Black Earth Compost (Newton’s curbside composting partner), thus reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions and creating a valuable amendment for our soils.

You can fling, toss and smash your pumpkin in all sorts of ways, including with smashing machines made by the Newton LigerBots, the high school robotics team.

Pre-registration is encouraged but onsite registration will be available for the Pumpkin Smash which will be held rain or shine.

All the information above is available at www.newtonma.gov/recycling
