At 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, the Newton Needham Chamber of Commerce will hold a press conference in front of Just Next Door (327 Auburn St.) with Mayor Setti Warren and other public officials to announce the kick-off of the a brand new Shop Local for the Holidays campaign.
Immediately following the press conference, all attendees are encouraged to engage in a “cash mob.” Similar to “flash mobs,” a cash mob is an event where a group of people gather together, but instead of singing a song or doing a dance, they agree to spend money at local businesses.

Chain Maille Jewelry Workshop

Join us for a 90-minute workshop led by chain maille artist Pat Brazill. The workshop will cover the basics of getting started making chain maille jewelry. All tools and materials will be provided. The Community Preservation Committee (CPC) will hold a special meeting with the Newton Board of Aldermen on Monday, Nov. 5, 7:00 – 7:45 pm, City Hall Room 202. The meeting is intended to solicit comments and questions on the draft new Funding Guidelines from Aldermen who were unable to attend the CPC’s September & October public hearing & meetings. Although the meeting is not a public hearing, the public is welcome to attend.
The CPC will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 14, beginning at 7:00 pm in Room 202 at Newton City Hall. The agenda includes:
– rescheduled public hearing on an affordable housing proposal for Eddy Street in Newtonville
– CPC final working session & adoption vote for new Funding Guidelines
The John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club is holding a free basketball clinic on Saturday, November 10th. for boys & girls, ages 6-15. Newton North Coach Paul Connolly and Newton South Coach Joe Killilea will conduct this year’s clinic with help from current Newton North and Newton South players.
There will be three 2-hour sessions organized by players’ ages:
Ages 6-8: 9:30 a.m. – 11:00a.m.
Ages 9-11: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30p.m.
Ages 12-15: 2:00 p.m. 4:00p.m.

Brookline Music School (BMS) presents “Roving Soul” on Sunday, November 11 at 4:00pm in Bakalar Recital Hall, 25 Kennard Road in Brookline. The concert is free & followed by a reception.
Roving Soul is a trio that blends traditional and modern folk songs that speak the common language of the human experience by spanning decades and world cultures. Their unique form of composed, interpreted, and improvised music is multi-ethnic, imaginative and rich with feeling, in which every song tells a different story.
Roving Soul is BMS faculty Chris Veilleux on alto and soprano saxophones, Jerry Sabatini on trumpet and flugelhorn, and Greg Loughman on double bass.
