TheatreInk presents “Coastal Disturbance,” Dec. 5-8

Newton North’s award-winning theatre program, Theatre Ink, presents Coastal Disturbances by Tina Howe.

Set on a private beach in Massachusetts, Coastal Disturbances explores love in its many different forms and provides pure comedic entertainment as emotions run wild along the shore. This show sends the endearing and profound message that, with proper sacrifice and dedication, true love reigns supreme.

Concert by Newton Family Singers, Dec. 9

The Newton Family Singers invite you to “Celebrating the Music of Carole King and Joni Mitchell,” on Sunday, December 9, at 4pm at the Memorial-Spaulding Elementary School Auditorium, 250 Brookline Street.

Come enjoy the enduring hits of Carole King, the Brooklyn-born earth mother, and Joni Mitchell, the poet from the Canadian prairie. And we hope you’ll sing along!!

“Celebrate Newton” crafts fair, Dec. 2, 10am-4pm

Celebrate Newton, Newton’s own holiday crafts fair, is around the corner! It’s running this year on Sunday December 2 at Newton South High School, from 10am-4pm. There’s live music, a kids crafts table, food, and most importantly, a host of fabulous artists and craftspeople, most of whom are your Newton neighbors. Come see their work, and shop for one-of-a-kind gifts for yourself and/or friends and family.

Newton’s Winter Farmers’ Market, Tuesdays

Newton’s first Winter Farmer’ Market runs every Tuesday through June (except Christmas and New Year’s Day) at the Hyde Community Center, 90 Lincoln Street, in Newton Highlands.

Newton Preservation Awards Celebration, Nov. 27

Historic Newton Book Club — all welcome

Join us for a discussion of the next selection of Historic Newton’s book club, American Colossus by H. W. Brands.

In his story of the economic transformation of American society after the Civil War, Brands provides a rounded and largely fair portrait of the capitalists and the world they made. The book club is free and new members are always welcome.

Basic Rights in Special Education, Nov. 27

Learn your rights as the parent of a child receiving special education services. Daniel Ahearn, Esq., director of the Landmark School Outreach Program and former director of the Massachusetts Board of Special Education Appeals, will present an overview state and federal special education regulations including new anti-bullying regulations, new transition guidance and autism insurance law.

Brookline’s First Light Festival, Nov. 29, 5-8pm

The Town of Brookline welcomes the winter season by hosting a town-wide annual celebration on Thursday, November 29 from 5:00 to 8:00pm. The 1st Light Festival is held in Brookline’s commercial districts of Brookline Village, Coolidge Corner, Washington Square, Saint Mary’s and Putterham Circle.

This year, Brookline will feature local music, dance, art and entertainment performances, light installations by Sina Lightworks in several locations, and a Brookline photo contest.

Brookline’s Winter Festival is organized by the Economic Development Division and volunteers to celebrate the upcoming holiday season, to support Brookline’s retailers and to integrate light and color by the local community during the darkest time of the year.
