Arsenal Center Offers Fall Art Classes

The Arsenal Center for the Arts offers a full spectrum of classes and workshops for kids of all ages beginning the week of September 23 and later.  Students, regardless of experience level, learn from professional artists as well as their classmates in a supportive art environment.

Children’s classes include Art Adventures, Clay for Kids, Mixed-Media, Drawing & Painting, Comics and more.  Fun Parent/Child workshops are also available. Teen classes include Drawing, Painting, Wheelthrowing and more. For class descriptions, visit www.arsenalarts.org.

Free Family Fun drop-in art workshops are offered Saturday, September 21, October 19 and November 16 from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon.   Classes are held at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street in Watertown, with free parking and access to public transportation.

Women’s Nutrition Class

Looking for ways for yourself or your family to get healthy this fall? Introducing Healthy Newton. This seasonal, six-week group nutrition class with Danielle Prestejohn (CHHC) is dedicated to supporting women who want to live healthier lives through optimal nutrition, mindset shifts, and exercise. All That Jazz Dance Studio classes available

All That Jazz Dance Studio is still accepting registration for the 2013-2014 school year!  Proud winner 3 years in a row of best dance studio for kids in Newton, Needham and Wellesley, as voted by the Readers Choice Awards. Classes start at age 2 for boys and girls and are offered 7 days a week.  Effective Oct. 7th, they will be moving to a Brand New State-of-the-Art Location at 330 Watertown St. in Newton!

Suzuki School of Newton Open House

Suzuki School of Newton is hosting an OPEN HOUSE, an afternoon of music, refreshments, and information about their music programs for children ages 0 to 18. The event takes place at United Parish Auburndale, located at 64 Holyoke Street, Newton, MA 02466 on Saturday, September 7 from 12:00-2:00 pm. Come see proof that the Suzuki Method works!

The Open House is open to the entire community. In addition, immediately before the Open House at 11:30am we will be hosting a FREE TRIAL CLASS for our KINDERMUSIK program, a music class for parents and children ages 0-3. Freelance Players youth theater auditioning in Newton!

The Freelance Players, a musical theater company for young actors, is starting a Newton Freelance Troupe this fall. The Troupe for young actors ages 8-12 (3rd -6th grade). The Troupe will produce one original musical each session and is staffed by theater professionals.

The Newton Troupe will meet on Monday afternoons, 3:30 pm to 5:45 pm, at Grace Church, 76 Eldredge Street, Newton . Sessions run for about 15 weeks and cost $485.00. BACK TO SCHOOL PICNIC – Tuesday Sept 10th 5:30 – 7:30

Please join us for an all school BACK TO SCHOOL PICNIC, this Tuesday, September 10th, 5:30 – 7:30, in Burr Park. It is a great way to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.  Bring the whole family.  The weather looks like it is going to be great.

Don’t want to cook??  We have a food truck coming.  The Pasta Pot will be available for you to purchase dinner and beverages.  We also hope to have a truck serving dessert.

PTO MEETING – September 20

Mark your calendars for the 1st PTO meeting of the year on Friday, September 20, 8:30 – 9:30 am, in the Bigelow Library.  We will be sending out an agenda prior to the meeting. 

Please note:  We understand that not everyone can make morning meetings.  We plan on holding some of the PTO meetings in the evening, to try to accommodate everyone’s schedules.

Hello and Welcome to the Bigelow School Community

We hope you enjoyed your Labor Day weekend and your children are off to a great start of the school year.  We are looking forward to a productive and exciting year at Bigelow.

A few notes to start our the school year:

PTO communications are electronic.  Email newsletters are planned to go out on Sunday and Tuesday evenings.  They are a great way of keeping up with what is happening at Bigelow for you and your children.  If you know someone who is not receiving these email newsletters, please have them go to the web site to sign up.  There is also lots of information on our website at www.bigelowpto.org. On the website, you will find a calendar with information of student activities and events for parents / guardians.

Please plan on joining us for a School Wide Welcome Back Picnic on Tuesday, September 10 from 5:30 – 7:30 in Burr Park.  It is a great way to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.  Bring dinner and blanket.

In the next week or so, you will be receiving an email to confirm you families’ information for the Bigelow directory.  Please review and confirm your information so we have it correct in the directory.

Volunteers Needed

We have two urgent committee needs:  

  • Advertising for Directory – Solicit advertisements for the school directory.  Will need to happen in the next few weeks so we can get the directory out.
  • Bake Sales and other small fundraisers – Organize bake sales for political elections throughout the year. Anticipate two elections in the 2013-14 school year.   There is a citywide election on September 17.
