CAN YOU HELP TAKE THE STRESS OFF?
It’s no secret that the holidays are especially stressful for families in financial straits. The Centre Street Food Pantry offers special items during the month of November to make Thanksgiving merry for those who look to the Pantry for consistent help. This year they want to offer their shoppers the makings for Thanksgiving side dishes and a $20 gift card to a local grocery store to buy a turkey.

Not sure what to get? Here’s a list of ideas: Gravy—Turkey or chicken, Stuffing mix, Cranberry Sauce, Canned vegetables, Green bean casserole makings (Green beans, Mushroom Soup and French’s onion strings), Pie filling-canned, Piecrust mix or graham crust, Cake or cookie mix, Bread mixes, Dried cranberries, Applesauce, Festive napkins/table cloths and Turkey roasting tin foil pans.

Items can be dropped off at the pantry on Tuesdays between 2:00 and 7:00 pm or email centrestfoodpantry@gmail.com to arrange for another time.

SOUP AND SUPPER STROLL – HOSTS NEEDED

Please consider hosting  a dinner at our 6th Annual Soup and Supper Stroll – Saturday, November 1.  Have a specialty dish?  Share it with other Bigelow parents / guardians and teachers.  We are looking for people to serve Soup and Supper to groups of 6 or more adults in their homes.  This evening is a really great way to meet other Bigelow parents.

The evening starts with appetizers at a Bigelow family’s home with everyone attending the “Stroll”.  Here you will find out the name and address of your Soup and Supper host and learn who the other guests are at your supper venue.  After supper, we will reconvene at a surprise location for coffee and dessert.

More information on sign-up will follow in October.

Interested in hosting?

– want to host but don’t want to cook?  – want to cook but not at your house?

All this is possible – please contact us and we will help you make it happen!  Dinner hosts just need to provide soup and a supper dish – no need to make appetizers and desserts.  Thank you!!!!

The team competes in tournaments through the Massachusetts Middle School Forensics League. Each student chooses her/his event: prose or poetry reading, original oratory, impromptu and more. Contests take place on Sundays about once per month.

Formerly open to Brown and Oak Hill students, this team is now open to students at Day and Bigelow Middle Schools, grades 6-8.

The team will meet on Mondays at Newton South High School from 3:30-5pm throughout the school year (last meeting 5/18). The cost is $445 for the year.

For more information, contact the team coach and teacher, Kim Vanaman. Register online here or by calling Newton Community Education at 617-559-6999 or visiting newtoncommunityed.org.
