Newton Family Singers 5th B’day Concert, Nov. 14

For five years, the Newton Family Singers has brought together family, community and music to entertain and delight audiences in the Greater Boston area.

For this special anniversary show, we have chosen our favorite numbers from our past seasons by artists such as Pete Seeger, Cat Stevens, Carole King, The Eagles, Sweet Honey in the Rock and others from the American folk tradition. You’ll hear our most crowd-pleasing, and heartfelt songs that will get you clapping, singing, dancing in the aisles, and will remind you of the joy of community singing, and our powerful musical history.

Sunday, November 16, at 4pm
Seasholes Auditorium at Newton South High School, 140 Brandeis Road.

Information regarding PE classes

To all Bigelow parents and guardians:

Just a reminder that all PE classes will be going outside until the Thanksgiving break.  Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for class.  Sweatshirts, sweatpants, running pants, and old sneakers are recommended.  Please help us keep out new floors clean by wearing an old pair of sneakers outside.  This prevents mud from being tracked all over the school.

Thank You,

The Bigelow PE Department,

Bill Prendergast, Danielle Pargoli, and Sean Petrosino

Thank you for making the Soup and Supper Stroll a SUCCESS

The Bigelow Community does not allow a little wind and rain to dampen their Saturday night, instead they head out for a festive evening of fun, conversation and food.  THANK YOU to all of you who attended the 2014 Soup and Supper Stroll.  You all looked great!  We had close to 100 guests attend and raised over $4,300!!!

Thank you to Alex Wajsfelner who started our evening out with a lively appetizer party.  Lots of yummy bites were enjoyed by the guests while catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.

From there it was off to one of our eleven homes that hosted a dinner.  Thank you to Laurie Halloran, Michelle Sparks, Claire & Christof Marre, Nicole von Rekowsky, Monica & Egil Sundheim, Jessie & Geoff Gilmartin, Jen Weber & Laurence Bailen, Michele & David Baxter, Dede & Josh Galdston, Joanne & Doug Simpson, Beverly Craig, Sami O’Reilly, Maria Sullivan & Paul Donovan, Karla & Matt Siegel, Angela & David Weiss, Lex Van der Ploeg & Gwo-Sho Mary Lee and Tami Ireland for hosting and cooking wonderful meals for all our guests!!

Burr Playground Community Build!

Thanks to all of the efforts planning and fundraising, Burr Elementary School’s new playground is set to be built on the weekend of November 7th, 8th & 9th! The Burr community came together in an amazing way last year to raise the funds needed for what will be an incredible playground.

What they need now is help from the Newton Community at large. As ambitious as they are, they are small in numbers and could use help from other PTOs and schools to get this playground out of the boxes and up in the air! The playground will be a community build… all hands on deck (Looking for volunteers 18 and older to build on Friday and Saturday, with some wrap up on Sunday).

Please take a look at the sign up form and put yourself down for some time if you can spare a few hours.  Come together to the build as a group! Make it a family affair or bring the neighbors. Please pass the word along to family, friends, neighbors, Burr alums, coworkers, etc. Everyone is welcome! There are some non-building roles as well – coordinating the volunteers, handing out refreshments, etc.

There will also be babysitting available for school aged children. They can have a fun supervised playdate while you help build a new place for them to play! Email BurrPlay@gmail.com to let them know you’ll be dropping your child off.
