Alumni Basketball : Calling all Club Members, Past and Present!!! Starting April 30th, The John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club will be offering Community Basketball every Thursday, from 6:30-8:30 pm, Through the Newton Community Partnership.

Girls Lacrosse : The John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club and Beaver Country are looking for 10-15 Girls to run a Free Lacrosse Clinic. If you are interested, contact mike at mdoran@newtonbgc.com for more information and to sign up.

Family Friendly

Looking for an outdoor Sunday morning family friendly activity?

On April 26th, please come to a charity Canine Walk and Family Fair to support The Carroll Center for the Blind.

The morning includes a dog walk (2 mile and 1 mile routes), cookout, face painting, photobooth, scavenger hunt, k9 demo, guide dog demo, and other fun stuff. There will be lots of awesome dogs and great kid activities. Plus free giveaway bag to the first 250 guests.

Kids are free and adults are $35.00. It’s a great chance to get outside, let the kids run around, and support a local charity. For more info go to www.carroll.org/caninewalk.

The Newton Highlands After-School Program, just for middle school children, is hosting an Open Houses for interested families. This is a terrific opportunity for parents of middle school kids (or current 5th graders) to learn more about the program as they plan for the next school year.

Bikes not bombs

Do you have an old or unused bike? Donate it to Bikes Not Bombs, a local non-profit that ships bikes overseas to support economic development. Bikes of any size and condition are welcome and can be dropped off on May 17th between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm along with a $10 donation per bike used to defray shipping costs. Help a Newton Senior with Spring Clean-up

Newton At Home has volunteer opportunities with Newton Seniors in your neighborhood. Volunteers are needed to assist members with Spring Clean Up of their property. This is a great family activity.

A member of the Village to Village Network, this members’-driven, neighbor-to-neighbor nonprofit organization serves our city’s residents 60 years of age and older.

Dirty Boys Composting can get you started Composting. Do you want to start a backyard compost pile but don’t know how to begin? Have you started composting but aren’t sure if you’re doing it right? Dirty Boys Composting can help.

Grant Berman, a Newton South junior, and his crew will handle your composting needs, including: compost bin purchase, delivery, installation; compost pile jump-start with top notch, Newton-bred, red wiggler worms; compost sifting and resuscitation; compost pile check ups and maintenance; family education, and on-call consultation. Annual subscriptions begin at $70.

Summer Basketball Camp with Boston University

The Boston University basketball staff welcome boys, ages 7-18, and girls, ages 12-14, to the fourth annual Coach Jones Basketball Clinic.

Campers will receive coaching from highly qualified coaching staff and former players and be divided by age and skill to ensure that each camper has a meaningful and fun experience. The CPC will hold a public hearing on a request for $400,000 in additional funding for the Museum Archives, Accessibility & Fire Suppression project. A total of $742,345 in CPA funding was previously appropriated for this project in 3 phases: 2008, 2010 and 2013. Seeking Summer Volunteers for the Waban Library Center

The WLC in Waban is looking for high school students who are interested in working a few hours per week this summer at our small community run library. Work starts a week after school closes, and ends in mid August. This is a good way for students to get involved with community service, and help us at the same time.
The work involves typical library work plus helping us with Story Time and occasional crafts projects with children. A personal interview must be scheduled at a convenient time. Students are encouraged to write to wabanlibrary@gmail.com or call 617- 244-0700.
