Kids Yogathon to benefit the West Suburban YMCA

Yoga Reaches Out has selected the West Suburban YMCA as the beneficiary for their upcoming Kids Yogathon on Saturday November 2nd.  This event is open to kids ages 3-12 and their families and will provide an age specific yoga classes, fun instructional yoga throughout the afternoon, activities, music, a marketplace and a family yoga session at the end.

Registration costs are minimal but each child and/or family has a minimum fundraising goal – the proceeds raised will be in support of our Camper Scholarship Program to help send kids in need to one of our 5 summer camps. It will be a wonderful day truly focusing on our mission of helping our community and the mission of Yoga Reaches Out – kids helping kids.

Yoga Reaches Out is a national nonprofit, based in Boston, that has helped children in need throughout this country and abroad. Yoga Reaches Out focuses on raising funds for organizations that impact the health, education, and well-being of children. YRO has raised over $1,000,000 for children’s charities since 2010.

Classical Art & Science Academy

Classical Art & Science Academy (CASA) is an innovative enrichment program located in Brighton which provides inquisitive children between the ages of 4.5 and 12 with an educational experience that covers a great variety of exciting subjects. Class offerings include: Art, Astronomy, Chess, Cello, Flute, French, Geography, History, Homework Assistance, Literature, Logic, Math, Music History and Literature, Music Theory, Piano, Reading, Russian, SAMBO (Russian Martial Art), Science, Technology, Test preparation, Theater, Violin, and Writing.

They are open 5 days a week, during school vacation, and on most holidays. Regular field trips to educational and entertainment venues in the greater Boston area are available throughout the year.

Wellesley Theatre Project Now Enrolling For Fall

From Page to Stage!, Pre-K (5 Weeks)
Begins October 3
Thursdays, 1-2:30pm
Every week a new story comes to life through creative drama, movement activities, and arts and crafts. Students will engage in an interactive exploration of beginning theatre, classic and current children’s literature, and nursery rhymes. The final day of class will feature a “Shareformance”.

4 Week Workshops:
If you can’t make one of our semester classes, or if you want to expand your knowledge in a specific area, this may be the class for you!

Musical Theatre, 2nd-8th Grade
Begins October 12
Saturday, 9am-Noon
“Sing Out, Louise!” Learn solo and ensemble numbers from some hit Broadway shows of the past and present! Students will work on becoming true theatrical “triple threats” during this intensive. Singing, Dancing, and Acting their way through some of Musical Theatre’s most beloved songs. Includes one on one and group coaching with Musical Director. The final day of class will feature a “Shareformance”.

Paddy’s Road Race to Benefit Athletes Unlimited, Oct. 20

Join Newton Parks and Recreation for Paddy’s Road Race at West Newton Common on Sunday October 20.

The Paddy’s Road Race benefits Athletes Unlimited, a Newton Parks and Recreation program that provides year-round recreation to youth and adults with disabilities.

The race features free youth races for ages 12 and younger, a 1K youth and all abilities race, and a 3 mile run and walk.

Paddles & Pumpkins at Crystal Lake, Oct. 6

The Board of the Crystal Lake Conservancy and the Newton Parks and Recreation Department invite you to enjoy a Sunday afternoon of activities on Crystal Lake.

Sunday, October 6
Crystal Lake Bathhouse, 20 Rogers Street< Newton Highlands
2:00pm-4:00 pm.

Enjoy free canoeing and kayaking, cider, strung donuts game & pumpkin decorating. 4:00-5:00 pm learn about ongoing activities to protect our precious lake.

Participants will sign up for a half hour of boating between 2-4pm to enjoy the pleasures of canoeing/kayaking on our beautiful lake.  A lifeguard will be on duty and all participants will be required to wear life jackets and sign a waiver.
