On Tuesday, Bigelow teachers and staff were treated to a “Winter Warm-Up” lunch of a variety of soups, salads, and breads to help show our appreciation for all they do for our students and our school community.
Many thanks to Shana Smythe, Hai Ly, Sara Wantman, Sarah Lenz, Nicole McDonald, Jenny Rosenthal, Kerri Vonnegut, Ileen Thelen, Caitlin Cusick, Jillian Feinberg, and Laura Goldworm for lending crockpots and donating soup, salad, and bread.
Thank you to Bertucci’s in Newton Corner for donating salad, and to Nicole McDonald for coordinating.
And a big thanks to Lanni Harris and Ron Farrar for the set up and clean up!
Last month we shared that a family in our community is in need of support. The father of a Bigelow 7th grader is currently undergoing treatment for Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. In addition to the physical and emotional toll this diagnosis presents, the family is facing financial stress due to mounting medical bills not covered by insurance and by being unable to work.
This family continues to face the challenges of this health crisis. A Go Fund Me campaign has been established to help alleviate some of the financial strain this family is facing so they can focus on fighting this cancer. Donations will directly support medical bills and the family’s day-to-day needs. A portion of the funds will also be allocated to a 529b fund for their 7th grader’s educational needs.

As always, we are grateful for the generosity of the Bigelow community.
This is a great and budget-friendly lacrosse clinic for 4th–8th graders organized and run by Newton South varsity lacrosse players. Funds raised support the lacrosse team and South Best Buddies and STRIDE programs.

It is time to nominate parents/guardians to serve on the Bigelow School Council for the 2023-24 school year.
The School Council, which was established as part of the 1993 Education Reform Bill, is a group of teachers and parents who meet monthly to advise the principal on issues related to the identification of students’ needs, the budget, and the development of a School Improvement Plan. Learn more about School Councils here.
Parent/Guardian members are to be selected by the parents of students attending the school, in elections held by the local recognized parent-teacher organization.
Please use this form to nominate possible representatives by Tuesday December 12th. Voting will take place from December 14th to December 19th via a google form distributed in the PTO newsletter on Thursday December 14th.
