The 8th Grade Year-end/Graduation Committee will be meeting at the beginning of January 2024 to start planning year-end 8th grade celebratory activities in conjunction with the 8th grade teachers and the Bigelow leadership. If you are interested in volunteering and having a voice, please email: Linda Gillespie at linda_bentley@yahoo.com directly to be added to our planning meetings.
We wish great health & happiness to all our students, families, faculty, and staff this holiday season and into the New Year! Sending gratitude and appreciation to everyone for helping make Bigelow a place for all our children to learn and grow.
Thank you to all who participated in the nomination process for the Bigelow School Council. Congratulations to the parent/guardian Bigelow School Council members for 2023-24:
Are you planning to make tax deductions for charitable contributions in 2023? Please consider supporting the Bigelow PTO before the end of year! Bigelow Middle School PTO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and 100% of your donation is tax deductible to the extent of the law.
Matching gifts are a great way to maximize your donation! Please consider adding Bigelow PTO to your company’s annual donation matching program, if applicable. Bigelow Middle School PTO is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Tax ID #20-0348453.
On Tuesday, Bigelow teachers and staff were treated to a “Winter Warm-Up” lunch of a variety of soups, salads, and breads to help show our appreciation for all they do for our students and our school community.
Many thanks to Shana Smythe, Hai Ly, Sara Wantman, Sarah Lenz, Nicole McDonald, Jenny Rosenthal, Kerri Vonnegut, Ileen Thelen, Caitlin Cusick, Jillian Feinberg, and Laura Goldworm for lending crockpots and donating soup, salad, and bread.
Thank you to Bertucci’s in Newton Corner for donating salad, and to Nicole McDonald for coordinating.
And a big thanks to Lanni Harris and Ron Farrar for the set up and clean up!
Last month we shared that a family in our community is in need of support. The father of a Bigelow 7th grader is currently undergoing treatment for Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. In addition to the physical and emotional toll this diagnosis presents, the family is facing financial stress due to mounting medical bills not covered by insurance and by being unable to work.
This family continues to face the challenges of this health crisis. A Go Fund Me campaign has been established to help alleviate some of the financial strain this family is facing so they can focus on fighting this cancer. Donations will directly support medical bills and the family’s day-to-day needs. A portion of the funds will also be allocated to a 529b fund for their 7th grader’s educational needs.
You can read more and make a donation through the Go Fund Me link. Any contribution to help support this family would be greatly appreciated.
As always, we are grateful for the generosity of the Bigelow community.
This is a great and budget-friendly lacrosse clinic for 4th–8th graders organized and run by Newton South varsity lacrosse players. Funds raised support the lacrosse team and South Best Buddies and STRIDE programs.
Registration for Spring Rec Softball is open! Our Rec program welcomes players, in grades K through 8, of all abilities and experience level playing softball.
