After two years interruption we can finally return to one of Bigelow’s favorite fall traditions – the grade-level (adult only!) potlucks. Traditionally held for incoming 6th grade families, the potluck gathers parents and guardians from all four feeder schools and out of the district families in an informal setting.
Are you interested in being a host? The hosting is simple….provide a space and some paper goods and send an invite and your guests do the rest! We will guide you through it all!
We are currently planning 6th grade and 7th grade potlucks. If you would like to learn more and/or if you are ready to sign up to host, please see grade-specific contact information below.
6th Grade Families: Please email Sara Wantman or Jennifer Gistrak
7th Grade Families: Please email Zlatena SImeonova Ezzat

On Friday, October 7, Bigelow students will enjoy the first Creative Arts & Sciences event of the school year, Ball in the House.
Based out of Boston, Ball in the House is an R&B/Pop/Soul a cappella group that has performed in venues all over the world and opened for some of the biggest acts in the music industry such as The Beach Boys, The Jonas Brothers, The Temptations, and Fantasia. Through contemporay and classic cover songs and original works, students will discover how “a cappella” works; how various voice parts fit together; how to beatbox and use rhythm. From chant through doo wop, students are introduced to songwriting and collaboration. Ball in the House inspires and encourages students to get involved and stay involved in the arts.
Friday’s assembly is sponsored by your generous contributions to our PTO and Creative Arts & Sciences. Thank you!
Will you walk, roll, bike or bus this year? Choose what works for your family to celebrate International Walk to School Day this year. Held annually, this event joins together students from over 40 countries.
Visit www.NewtonSafeRoutes.org or contact Alex Rolfe for more information about walking, rolling and riding.
Building on the success of last year’s Staff Wellness Day, Principal Coston and Bigelow Leadership are planning Bigelow’s first ever Student Wellness Day.
When? Thursday, December 8th, ~8:30-11:20 am (December 8th is an early release day with 11:20 am dismissal)
What? After advisory, students will rotate through 5 different 30-minute health and wellness activities. Students will be able to choose the activities that most interest them.
We need you! We are looking for parent volunteers to share their talents and lead 30-minute activity sessions to make Bigelow’s first ever Student Wellness Day a success. The goal is for students to have a wide range of activities to choose from, e.g., origami, dance, yoga, meditation, cookie or cupcake decorating, crafts, gaming, sports, etc.!
Interested? Please email bigelowbulldog@gmail.com with your idea and join the fun!
Thank you to those who volunteered at Beautify Bigelow last Sunday! We weeded, mulched, and planted perennials to enjoy this Fall and over 50 bulbs to look forward to this Spring. Volunteers also picked up trash throughout the school grounds.
Don’t forget to join us in the Spring for Newton Serves!
