Dr. Michael Thompson on “The Pressured Child” Thursday, October 23, 7-9 pm, Newton North Auditorium

The push for students to excel at school and get into the best colleges has never been more intense. Through his experience as a clinical psychologist, school consultant and speaker on the topics of children, schools and parenting, Dr. Thompson, co-author of Raising Cain, addresses America’s performance-driven obsession with the accomplishments of its kids – and provides a deeply humane response.

Soup and SUPPER Stroll, what is it? And sign up is open

What is included in the Soup and SUPPER Stroll on Saturday, November 1st??

1)  An appetizer party from 6-8pm (with adult beverages), for everyone attending the evening, at one Bigelow parents home.

2)  A supper including soup and a full entree from 8-10pm at one of 12 Bigelow families’ homes.

3)  And finally, a dessert party at a surprise location from 10-11:30pm.

We hope you can join us for the great Bigelow event, a festive adult evening of great food prepared by Bigelow families, fun and conversation while supporting our children and school.

A huge thank you to all the families who have generously opened their homes to host a dinner for our evening.

On-line Bigelow directory is now available

The on line Bigelow Student / Family / Staff directory is now available.  You should have received an email this past Friday with instructions on how to access it.  Please email bigelowbulldog@gmail.com if you did not receive it.

Please be aware that the on-line program is secure and available only to those in the Bigelow community. To ensure security, all passwords are encrypted so they can’t be viewed, copied or retrieved.  The program uses Secure Socket Layer protection (SSL) throughout the site, even on smart phones so that data cannot be captured during submission or transfer (That familiar lock in the web address tells you it’s secure.)

Print copies should be available in the next few weeks and will be sent home with students.

Friday, October 3 from 8:30-9:45am is the First PTO Meeting of the year.  Please join us in the new Learning Commons (formerly known as the Library) and find out what is planned for the PTO this year.

Thursday, October 2 from 7-9pm is Back to School Night at Bigelow.  Meet your child’s teachers and find out what your student will be learning this year.  The PTO will have tables set up with information about upcoming events and volunteering at the entrances.  PTO Board members will also be there, so please stop by, say hi and find out about your PTO.

SOUP AND SUPPER STROLL – HOSTS NEEDED

Please consider hosting  a dinner at our 6th Annual Soup and Supper Stroll – Saturday, November 1.  Have a specialty dish?  Share it with other Bigelow parents / guardians and teachers.  We are looking for people to serve Soup and Supper to groups of 6 or more adults in their homes.  This evening is a really great way to meet other Bigelow parents.

The evening starts with appetizers at a Bigelow family’s home with everyone attending the “Stroll”.  Here you will find out the name and address of your Soup and Supper host and learn who the other guests are at your supper venue.  After supper, we will reconvene at a surprise location for coffee and dessert.

More information on sign-up will follow in October.

– want to host but don’t want to cook?  – want to cook but not at your house?

All this is possible – please contact us and we will help you make it happen!  Dinner hosts just need to provide soup and a supper dish – no need to make appetizers and desserts.  Thank you!!!!
