Registration now open for Newton Girls Softball

Think Spring! Think Softball! Newton Girls Softball registration is underway for the 2012 spring season. This is a recreational league of more than 500 Newton girls in grades 1-10. Players of all skill levels will have a fun and rewarding experience. February 29, 2012 is the last date you can register with guaranteed placement.

2012 Newton East Little League Spring Baseball Registration

On-line registration for the 2012 Spring baseball season is now open for boys and girls aged 4 to 12. The programs run from April through the middle of June. The programs run by NELL:

  • T-BALL – kindergarten or entering Kindergarten in the fall of 2012;
  • Farm Division – 1st and 2nd grade;
  • College Division – 3rd-6th grade: This division is a developmental league;
  • Cooperstown Division – 3th through 6th grade: This division is a more advanced league. Players who wish to play in the Cooperstown Division must attend the tryout. Little League age 12 players may play in this division by waiver only;
  • Major League Division – 4th through 7th grade: Open to players who are aged 10 to 12. To be placed on a Major League team you must try out.

The registration fee for T-Ball and Farm League players is $130 and for College, Cooperstown and Major League players $155. If you have more than one child in NELL, you will receive a $30 fee reduction for each additional player. The registration deadline is March 31, 2012 for T-Ball and January 31, 2012 for all other leagues. After the deadline, placement is not guaranteed and a late registration fee will apply (except for T-Ball). For more information and to register, visit NELL’s website: www.newtoneastll.org

Newton Girls Basketball Registration (NGBA)

Newton Girls Basketball Registration (NGBA): High school registration deadline is Tuesday, November 30. NGBA High School league is intended for girls who have played basketball and are seeking a fun and slightly more competitive experience. Players in the high school league generally are former grade 2-8 NGBA players interested in playing a recreational, competitive basketball game on Saturdays. NGBA second grade program provides a fun introduction to basketball for both players and parents. The program is lead by a professional basketball coach, with assistance from high school student coaches. The program is designed to teach the basics of basketball during the first part of the 50 minute session, and then organizes games/scrimmages for the second part. Sessions are Saturday mornings at Oak Hill Middle School. NGBA also has a limited number of slots available in Grades 2-8. For more information go to www.ngba.net.

Yoga for Kids/Teens

Yoga is a great tool to help pre-teens and teenagers develop healthy relationships with their bodies, as well as to help them feel empowered to make good decisions and manage the stress in their busy lives.  Yoga builds strength, flexibility, and focus in the mind as well as the body.  Down Under Yoga’s Christyn Schroeder will be teaching a yoga class for kids ages 10-14 in Waban Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 pm starting October 11, 2011 at a private home with a large basement.  Cost is $18/class, $160 for 10 classes, with no class on Thanksgiving.  May start anytime, pro-rated for number of classes taken.   Contact Didi von Deck at mvdand3@gmail.com or kids@downunderyoga.com for more information or to register.

Little League Annual Meeting: Nov. 1

Newton South Little League will hold its annual member meeting on Tuesday, November 1, at 7 pm at the Angier School library (1697 Beacon St).

This meeting is open to all league parents as well as to people interested in contributing to the league by volunteering.  The 2012 Board will be nominated and elected at this meeting. Please come to help make South Little League the best it can be for your children!

Newton Girls Basketball Association (NGBA)

Registration is underway for the upcoming Newton Girls Basketball season.  Join the more than 500 players from second graders through high school level who play NGBA basketball.  This is a recreational basketball league for Newton girls and girls attending Newton schools with fun for beginners and experienced players alike!  Games are played on Saturdays for all grades, starting early December and continuing into mid-March.  Registrations are due by October 21st for Grades 3-8, November 2 for Grade 2, and November 30th for High School.  A late fee applies for registrations received after those dates.  Scholarships are available based on need; please see the website for details. NAA Winter Basketball for grades 3 through 12

Registration opens by Oct. 1st:  Newton Community Education (NCE) is in partnership with the Newton Athletic Association (NAA), a non-profit volunteer-run organization manages and administers basketball leagues in Newton. Leagues are for players from the third grade through high school. The league is generally considered a boys league but girls are welcome to play. All players welcome regardless of ability or experience.  An evaluation clinic is coming up in October to balance the teams.  There are 10-12 games on Saturdays and Sundays.  Practices one night each week.  Program runs Mid-November through Mid-March.  Fee: (scholarships available) $120 with discounts for additional players from one family.  Information and application online at www.naabasketball.orgApplication deadline Oct. 20th.

Yoga Classes for Pre-teens and Teens at Down Under Yoga
