Newton Girls Basketball Association (NGBA)

Registration is underway for the upcoming Newton Girls Basketball season. Join the more than 500 players from second graders through eighth graders who play NGBA basketball. This is a recreational basketball league for Newton girls and girls attending Newton schools with fun for beginners and experienced players alike! Games are played on Saturdays, starting early December and continuing into mid-March.

Upcoming Newton Parks and Recreation Programs

December Vacation Camp at Lower Falls Community Center for children in grades K-6. It’s like summer camp in the winter. Participate in sports, arts and crafts, inside games and more at the Lower Falls Community Center. Each day features an exciting special event. December Vacation Thundercat Sports Clinic at Pellegirini Park for children ages 6 – 12. Play a variety of sports including basketball, floor hockey, soccer, dodgeball and more all in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Located at Pellegrini Park. Newton Parks and Recreation is hosting a special Family Jump Night at Launch Watertown on December 28th. This special Family Jump Night is a fundraising event to benefit the Newton Parks and Recreation Camp Scholarship Fund. Jump for one hour or jump for more! The cost is $15.00 per hour per jumper. Food and arcades games are available for an additional fee. Register online with code Newton at www.launchwatertown.com to guarantee your admission or use the same code as a walk in (provided they have not reached attendance capacity).

The Newton South Recreation Complex offers a variety of classes for youth and adults. All programs are held on Sundays and start on January 3rd. Pre-registration is required and can be done online at www.activityreg.com. Sign up for Engineering with Lego Minecraft, Quick Start Tennis, Cardio Tennis, Badminton Instruction, Family Badminton, Archery, Pickleball, Open Workout, Walking and Weights and more.

Zervas Turkey Trot 5K

Please join the 2nd annual Zervas 5K Turkey Trot to support the Newton Food Pantry. Registration is now open at newtonturkeytrot.racewire.com and long sleeve tech T-shirts will be given to all participants who register online before November 18th. $25.00 online, $30.00 race day.

YMCA Gala Celebrating the Diversity of our Community

At the West Suburban YMCA, one in every ten people they serve are receiving financial assistance towards memberships, childcare, camp, swim lessons, music classes, and more. By supporting the Gala, you will enable the Y to raise the crucial funds, 100% of which will be put directly back into our community through financial aid to our children, adults, seniors and families.

Lifeguard Training Classes
The West Suburban YMCA is offering two Lifeguard Training Classes this fall: Friday classes beginning on October 23rd and Sunday classes beginning on November. These programs are for individuals interested in receiving Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, and have not taken a Lifeguard Training class before. Newton Youth Hockey’s Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs

Registration is now open.

Learn to Skate  This program is intended for kids who are new to skating or need further work on skating basics. The focus is on having fun while teaching them through games and other activities. They work on getting up, balancing, pushing, gliding and stopping. There is one practice per week. NYH runs two 9 week sessions. The first session starts November 21st at Daly Rink.

Learn to Play  This is the introduction to hockey program. Participants need the full complement of hockey pads. The program will build on skating skills, and introduce hockey stops, cross overs, more advanced balancing, stick use and puck handling, etc. Kids are placed into the program based on their birth year. From there, they are assigned teams and will continue with those same teams for the whole season. The program will run for 18 weeks and starts in November.

Family MLK Ski Trip

A local father of two Newton school students has formed a travel agency with the goal of creating community by planning ski and ride family trips. The first trip of this ski season will be held January 15th – 18th, 2016 in Bolton Valley, VT.

Trip Includes:
* 3 night’s slope side lodging at The Inn at Bolton Valley (standard room with 2 double beds)
* 3-day lift pass
* Daily breakfast buffet
* Saturday and Sunday night dinner buffet (pasta one night, pizza the other)

COST: $275 per person * (based on 4 to a room), $1100 for family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children 7+) in a standard room with 2 double beds *

*Under 4 years old are free, but do not count toward occupancy. 4-6 years old ski free, so deduct $80 for no lift passes needed. Non-skiers or pass holders may deduct $80 OFF trip price for no lift passes.

*2 people to a room – $690.
*3 people to a room – $895.
*4 people to a room – $1100
*5 people to a room – $1305
*6 people to a room – $1510

IMPORTANT NOTE: ……this is not a chaperoned trip, nor instructions. You must ski with your children or arrange proper care or instruction. Ski school and/or day care is available through Bolton Valley.
