Summer Strength Squad

Optimal Fit PT announces a FUN and CHALLENGING 6 week program designed specifically for high school students. Learn form and technique for strength based weight training. The program will
1. Teach proper form and technique for basic prime movements used during training.
2. Identify/Correct movement patterns that may predispose an individual to injury.
3. Prepare students athletes to enter into Fall sport season in PRIME condition.

Kids Night Out (Ages 7-13), June 9th, 6:00 – 10:00 pm
Parents: This is the last Kids Night Out until the fall! Drop off your kids for a fun Friday night with qualified staff members. They’ll order pizza for dinner and keep the children entertained with games, swimming, movies and sports. $25 per child for members and $30 for non-members. A 20% discount is offered per child for those with two or more children. Go out for the night and take advantage of this low-cost alternative to hiring a babysitter. Everyone wins!

Annual Golf Tournament, June 19th, 1:00 – 8:00 pm
Join Y staff and volunteers at the Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord for one of the premier yearly events. The tournament benefits the Y’s Annual Fund – providing financial assistance to local families in need. Registration includes 18 holes with a cart, lunch, dinner, player gifts and prizes for the winners of fun competitions like longest drive, closest to the pin, etc. For more information please visit wsymca.org/golf, or contact Rosie Carey at 617-244-6050 x 3099.

Run the Newton Highlands 5K

The Village Day 5K is back! Parents and children alike will start the morning off great by participating in this family-oriented Village Day 5K sponsored by Whole Foods Market.

Can’t or don’t like to run? Then help out the Village Day 5K team by volunteering for the event. Summer basketball camp

ASA Hoops is hosting camps in Newton starting June 26th and running through the end of August. Camps are for boys/girls, ages 7-16 and run daily from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Join us for Healthy Kids Day!

Come to one of the Y’s premier annual events, Healthy Kids Day, which is FREE and open to the public. Enjoy the bouncy house and obstacle courses! Get the whole crew moving with family fitness classes and GaGa ball. Observe a showing of a selection of surprise critters from Curious Creatures as well as musical performances from the talented YCCA students.

Bring your bicycle to decorate and show off in the parade afterward. There will be a free bike helmet giveaway courtesy of the Newton Elks Club and Farina’s in Watertown. First come, first serve.

All events will take place outside on the Y’s New Balance Track & Field barring poor weather, in which case activities will be moved to the gym. Healthy Kids Day is generously sponsored by the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation.

JCC Kids’ Choice Passover/April Vacation Program

From sports to swimming to arts, dance, cooking and rock climbing, kids have their choice of activities at the JCC Kids’ Choice Passover/April Vacation Program. For boys and girls entering grades K-6 and CITs in grades 7-9 (at a reduced rate – please call for details). Special highlights include bingo bash, Spring Olympics, carnival, talent show, trip to Wheelock Family Theatre to see Charlotte’s Web, arts and crafts festival and a performance by singer-songwriter Janet Feld.

Newton Heartbreak Hill Road Race & Walk

The snow has almost gone, and it’s time to start dusting off those running (or walking) shoes! The 25th annual Heartbreak Hill Road Race and Family Walk is a perfect way to shake off some of that cabin fever! Just one mile, up and down famed Heartbreak Hill!

Every runner receives an official digital-clock time, a race medallion, goody bag and a free ticket to the pre-race pasta party at Newton City Hall on Friday, April 14th. The 1st, 2nd & 3rd place runners in each category win a trophy!

The first 500 registrants receive a free t-shirt. Everyone receives cheers and admiration from the crowd! There are fun free activities for kids organized by the Lasell College Special Events students.

Not a runner? Everyone can walk the course at 11:30 am. Register at www.newtoncommunitypride.org $10 child/$12 adult.
