Brookline Music School presents “An Evening of Piano Trios”

Brookline Music School (BMS) presents An Evening of Piano Trios with Susan Jensen on violin, Darry Dolezal on cello and Paul Jacobs on piano. The concert will perform Beethovan’s Allegretto Wo0 39, Brahms’ Piano Trio No. 1, and Martin Boykan’s Piano Trio No. 3 “Rites of Passage” inspired by artwork of Susan Schwalb.

An Evening of Piano Trios is one of Brookline Music School’s yearly faculty concerts, performed and presented by BMS piano faculty Paul Jacobs. BMS’ renowned faculty offers an array of unique and educational concerts throughout the year at the Kennard House and at numerous community locations. The superb quality of educational offerings at BMS is made possible by the high level of arts education, musicianship and pedagogical experience of the faculty, with over half of its internationally trained faculty members holding a Masters degree or higher.

Theatre Ink 2011/12 season opens with Moliere’s “Tartuffe” a hilarious and outrageous classic comedy directed by Dan Fabrizio

Tartuffe, a roguish imposter, worms his way into the orderly household of prosperous yet naive merchant Orgon. He sets out to marry the daughter, seduce the wife, imprison Orgon and get his hands on the family fortune. With thwarted lovers, eavesdropping and the famous ‘under the table scene’, one of the funniest comic set pieces ever written for the stage. Tartuffe is performed with a relevance that will delight modern-day audiences.

Performances are on November 3, 4 and 5th at 7:30PM in the Performing Arts Center main auditorium at NNHS 457 Walnut Street, Newtonville. Tickets are $7 for General Admission at www.theatreink.net or 617 559 6406

Birthday Wishes Hosts Luminary Night November 6

Please support Birthday Wishes in its second annual Luminary Night, celebrating families and friends, good neighbors and community. On Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 5:00 PM, join neighbors and friends and light Birthday Wishes luminaries on your front walks or driveway in unison with hundreds of families in Newton and many communities across the state. Each Luminary Kit costs $15 with easy instructions and it contains everything needed for a dozen luminaries. Luminary Kits will dropped off at your home by Saturday, November 5. To order your kit go to www.birthdaywishes.org and order online by clicking the online store tab or download an order form.  All proceeds from the luminary kits will go to Birthday Wishes so the organization can continue to bring the joy of a birthday party to children living in homeless shelters in Newton and across the state.

Waban Library Center -Anniversary Celebration, Chapter 2

School Committee & Board of Aldermen Candidate Forums, Oct. 23

The League of Women Voters of Newton and NewTV are co-sponsoring candidate forums for all contested municipal races on Sunday, October 23, at NewTV Studios, 23 Easy Street, Newton Highlands. The public is welcome to attend but there is limited seating for a studio audience. If you wish to ask the candidates questions, please arrive 15 minutes before the forum to submit your question in writing. Newton Free Library “Read To Ride” Program for Rye Airfield

Read just 5 books for a DAY PASS to Rye Airfield Skatepark. The Newton Free Library is partnering with Rye Airfield, a skate park & BMX track in Rye, New Hampshire, to give readers a chance to earn a FREE day pass to the park. All you need to do is read a book and do one of the following:

  • Write a short (1-2 par) essay/review on the book
  • Sit down with the librarian to discuss the book
  • Draw a picture about the book

It’s really that simple. Come to the library to get your log sheet. Earn a stamp for each book. Collect 5 stamps, and bring the sheet to Rye Airfield for your free all day pass. See your librarian to get started today!

Volunteer Snow Shovelers Needed

Winter is on its way, and the City of Newton is preparing a list of students and adults willing to volunteer to shovel snow for local seniors and/or disabled residents who are unable to clear the sidewalks. Please help keep Newton’s sidewalks safe for walking this winter — and warm yourself inside and out! Volunteer information & sign up forms are online here from the City of Newton’s Dept. of Parks and Recreation.
