Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration

The public is invited to attend a citywide celebration of Dr. King’s legacy at the 50th Annual City of Newton Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration.

Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller, former Mayor Setti Warren, and School Superintendent David Fleishman will be honored guests at the event which this year is being hosted by Pastor Sean Witty of the Frist Baptist Church of Newton. There will be student performances by The Monologue Project: Voices of Color, Newton All City Treble Singers, Newton All City Troubadours, and Newton North Jubilee Singers, and the Myrtle Baptist Church’s The Love Tones will also perform.

Members of Rotary Club of Newton will be collecting donations of toiletries to be distributed to Newton’s Food Pantries. The event’s major community sponsor is The Village Bank.

“Future Chef” Recipe Contest

Newton Public Schools Food Service will once again host the Future Chef Competition for students in grades 3-5.

This year, they’re looking for your favorite Healthy Asian Fusion recipe! One winner from each elementary school will be chosen to compete at a chef’s event at Newton North High School on March 20th.

Newton Youth Players expands

Due to overwhelming demand, the Newton Youth Players are delighted to announce a fourth day! Starting on March 26th, “Bye Bye Birdie” will have another cast: Monday! The location is the same: Newton City Hall, the time is a little different: 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Another exciting new addition to the Newton Youth Players family is the exceptionally talented team of Co-Directors: *Hannah Rosenberg and Linda Goetz.

*Hannah Rosenberg is thrilled to join Newton Youth Players as a director for “Bye Bye Birdie”! Hannah has been involved in theatre since a young child and recently became a part of Newton Theatre Company as an actor and Development Director.

Linda Goetz is a professional actress, writer and director; and one of the founders of the Newton Nomadic Theater. In recent years she was nominated for Best Actress by the Independent Reviewers of New England for her role as Lady Macbeth with the FUDGE Theatre.

City of Newton annual Camp Fair

The City of Newton is holding their annual Camp Fair. Come see what is being offered in Newton for the summer of 2018! Child entertainment will be provided by Wicked Cool Science from 12:00 – 3:00 pm. Attached is the Camp Fair Flyer for more information.

New England Camp Fair – February 11th

If you have a child attending camp this summer, you don’t want to miss this free event: The New England Camp Fair. The camp fair is open to ALL local families.

Over 30 camps from Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire will be participating. Attending camps serve children ages 6-14, and represent a mix of day and overnight camps. Participating camps run the gamut from traditional style camps to sports, computer, arts and themed camps. Come to the fair with your prospective camper and meet in person with camp directors and representatives.

Vacation Week Drop in Play Space

Looking for a fun place for you and your toddler to spend the morning during February vacation? On Wednesday, February 21st and Friday, February 23rd from 9:30 – 11:00 am, join Time for Partners Art & Music teacher Paula Gannon at a drop-in Playspace at Newton City Hall.

For children ages 18 months to 5 years with a caregiver – make an art project, make some music and make new friends! You do not need to be a registered participant in the Time for Partners class to enjoy this fun vacation program, just drop in! $10.00 per child or $25.00 per family.
