Safety, Awareness, and Physical Skills for Middle School Girls

Temple Emanuel in conjunction with the City of Newton is offering a two hour class for girls ages 11-13. The class will be taught by Newton and Boston police on Sunday September 29th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. There is limited space so if you have a child interested please sign up right away by emailing joannekazarian@gmail.com.

The class will take place at Temple Emanuel in the Benjamin Vestry. Workout clothes should be worn and water bottles are an excellent idea! There is a $30.00 fee for the class.

Top Banana Education Foundation

Top Banana is an after-school and weekend organization that focuses on the development of brain-based learning curricula in Math, Handwriting, English and Information Technology classes! Math classes for students in Kindergarten through 7th grade, Handwriting classes for students in 3rd grade, English classes for students in 4th and 5th grade and new this year, Information Technology* is for students in 7th and 8th grade!

* Top Banana’s new Information Technology & Computer Science class is a rigorous yet fun program where students are taught the principles and ideas behind computers and the gadgets they use everyday! The topics include computer components, operating systems, networks & communications, how the internet is structured, algorithms, programming structures, basic data structures and more. In addition, students will take time to master spreadsheets in Excel to organize scientific and financial data and manipulate it using formulas. This unique and exciting class for 7th and 8th graders will be offered on Sundays from 10:00 am-12:00 pm.

Newton Community Ed classes for Middle Schoolers

Registration is now underway for fall classes through Newton Community Education. Offerings for middle school students include:

  • fencing at Bigelow on Tuesdays and Brown on Fridays;
  • archery at Oak Hill on Tuesdays;
  • Bootstrap: Practical Math for Programming Video Games at North on Tuesdays;
  • online news production at South on Tuesdays;
  • yoga at Oak Hill on Wednesdays;
  • Prisoner’s Dilemma and other math games at South on Fridays;
  • babysitting & CPR training at North and South on Fridays.

All classes are for kids from all schools. NCE also offers many family classes, such as It’s Magic!, Glass Fusing, Family Night under the Stars, and more. NCE also runs after-school classes for elementary school kids at schools throughout Newton.
