Winter Workshop Fest at Watertown Children’s Theatre, Jan. 21

The Watertown Children’s Theatre, arsenalARTS and New Repertory Theatre are teaming up to provide a fun-filled day of theatre, visual art and more at the Arsenal Center on January 21, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

Students in grades K-5 can explore the worlds of both theatre and visual arts with WCT and the ACA, while students in grades 6-9 can experience intensive performance workshops with WCT and New Rep!

Register for the morning session (9:30 am – 12:45 pm) or the afternoon session (1:15 pm – 4:30 pm) or both! Students enrolled in both programs may bring a nut-free lunch and will be supervised during the lunch break.

Winter Programming at Newton Community Farm for kids & adults

The Newton Community Farm (NCF) is pleased to offer a variety of courses this winter for children, gardeners, and others who have an interest in the outdoors, food, and farming.

For children, join us on Feb 6  for an Early Release Day Activity and again on February 21 for Kids on the Farm – Then and Now, a vacation week program at the Jackson Homestead.

For gardeners, classes that might be of interest include Planning Your Garden for a Four Season Bounty, Growing Fruit Trees, and Defensive Urban Gardening.

NCF is also offering a class series on beer brewing and a guided tree walk in Nahanton Park.

Soccer Clinics with BC Lady Eagles, Dec. 27 – 30

We are glad to announce the return of our Boston College Lady Eagles Soccer Clinics, starting with our Winter Session. The camp will be held from December 27 – December 30, from 12pm – 5pm at Boston College Alumni Stadium.

Our program is designed to develop the players in a fun environment. Players, aged 6 – 14 years, are grouped by age and ability and the program is catered to both the beginner and elite club level player.

Our goal is to challenge each camper to leave our clinics with an increased enthusiasm for the game and ideas to further develop them as individual players. The cost for the camp is $295 and registration is available online.

 

December Recess Sewing Camp, Dec 26-31

Don’t get stuck scrambling to find activities for your children during the December Break.

Send the kids to sewing camp at the Newton Sewing Studio  and let the fun and creativity begin! Beginners and seasoned stitchers will appreciate our mix of fun and useful projects.

Dec 26th through Jan 1st – Half or Full days (9am-1pm; 1pm-5pm)

We welcome kids as young as five and parents are more than welcome to stay and sew with us.

Just for Teens at the Newton Free Library

Teen Crafternoons, Wednesday, December 19, 3:30 pm

Get creative the first and third Wednesday of every month in the second floor teen area. On 12/5, help create holiday cards for those who are hospitalized during the holiday season and on 12/19 we’ll be making origami boxes and snowflakes to get in the holiday spirit! Grades 6-12.

Movie Screening of Elf, Saturday, December 22, 2:00 pm

It’s Elf season! Drink hot cocoa, eat peppermint sticks and get in the holiday spirit with a special screening of Elf. The movie is rated PG and runs for 97 minutes. Open to all.

Improv Storytelling: Moving Characters, Moving Stories, Thursday, December 27, 7:00 pm

Teens, grades 6-12, join Rona Leventhal, a storyteller from Western Massachusetts, for an improv storytelling workshop in Druker Auditorium. Harness your hidden characters! Using improvisational theatre and movement, we will explore the bizarre, sweet, sly, bold, old and young characters that live in each of us. Learn to have a ‘body-sense’ of how to bring any character to life within a story. Give yourself permission to play and explore! The focus will be on exploring characters in general, not just one particular story. Open to all who want to have fun and learn!

“App”etizers, Friday, December 28, 4:00 pm

Drop in to the second floor teen area to pick up an “app”etizer menu. Learn about new cooking apps, test them out on the iPad and eat snacks! Open to teens and up.

Dec. Vacation at Arsenal Center for the Arts

The Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown offers December Vacation Art Workshops from Dec. 26 – 28 for two age groups: 5 & 6 year olds and 7-10 year olds.

Focusing on the theme of the Great Artists, children will look at reproductions of work by famous artists (Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet and Calder) and use them for creative inspiration.

Full or half-day options available.
Morning classes run from 9:30am – Noon. Afternoon classes run from 12:30 – 3pm. Supervised lunch and extended day options are available.

“School of Rock” vacation programs, Feb. & April

School of Rock Boston in Watertown is now accepting enrollments for February Break & April Break Rock Star Performance Boot Camps. 

Seeking singers, guitarists, bassists, drummers, and keyboardists between the ages of 8-18 for the weeks of Feb. 18-22 and April 15-20.

Veteran’s Day at the New Art Center, Nov. 12

What is your child or teen doing this Veteran’s Day? Send them to the New Art Center for a one-day vacation art program!

Students will explore and create 2D and 3D artwork and be inspired through discussion-based tours and interactive activities in our galleries.
