Songs That Change the World

REVOLUTION ROCK:  Songs That Change the World (all ages and skill levels)

•This hands-on workshop will cover the role music plays in making social change.

•Students will have the opportunity to expand their concepts of musical education.

•Study songs that have inspired movements and learn how to use your own music to create social change.

•Explore the work of artists such as Bob Marley, Rage Against the Machine, The Clash, Bob Dylan, and other musicians who have changed the world with the power of song.

•Learn the techniques used to make a great song that has real impact.

•Most importantly we’ll put these techniques into action by writing original music to support the causes we are most passionate about.

Date:  April 20th and April 21st
Time:  12:00–4:00 pm (both days)
Location:  Plugged In Band Program
Tuition:  $120.00 per person

Plugged In is a nonprofit rock band program in the Boston area teaching kids ages 6-19 throughout Massachusetts about using music to create positive change in the world.  In addition to weekly ensemble band classes, private lessons, summer day camp, songwriting workshops and community performances, five times a year Plugged In students perform in benefit concerts that raise money for causes and organizations chosen by the students themselves. Plugged In provides a nurturing and supportive community to which young musicians feel a sense of belonging, an opportunity to express and be acknowledged for their musical interests and a chance to use their music to help others around the world.

April Vacation Sewing Camp

Get creative during Spring Vacation at the Newton Sewing Studio. Spring Vacation Sewing Camp is right around the corner!

Sewing Camps are for all levels and abilities: Beginners just learning the “threads” or a seasoned sewist with fashion on the mind. With hundreds of project choices and fabrics galore, you’re sure to have a blast working alongside our friendly instructors.

Machine embroidery, fabric printing, iron on transfers, industrial machines and more. There is no limit to what you can achieve at Newton Sewing Studio. Check out the website for details. Bring your ideas, and your dreams, and we’ll help show you the path to make them a reality.

April Break with Theatre Arts Camp

Spend your April vacation with the Wellesley Theatre Project! Join the WTP for a three-day workshop including a master class in Auditioning, Scene Study, and Musical Theatre.

April 22, 23 & 24
2nd- 5th Grade, 9am – Noon
6th-12th Grade, 1pm – 4pm

Students will leave with audition techniques, an understanding of how to approach a scene, and learn a dance to a musical theatre favorite. At the conclusion of the workshop, students will present their work in a “Shareformance”. Learn more and register at the Wellesley Theatre Project website.

April Vacation is almost here!

April vacation week is coming April 20th – 25th. The Boys & Girls club will be open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm for their vacation program including lots of fun activities, field trips and in-house entertainment. For more information check out the brochure:

New This Year – Cove Theme Days ! Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays camp will meet at The Boys & Girls Club and then travel by bus as a group to the Cove in Auburndale. Each week will highlight a new theme. Campers will participate in special group activities, arts & crafts, sports and science. Breaks for food, hydration, and relaxation are evenly spaced throughout. Camp Goes Swimming Every Day!

Performing Arts for Teens

Is your teen interested in theater? Do he/she care about the environment ?

During the 4 days of April Vacation, teens will write and perform a play about taking care of the environment. They’ll have the opportunity to participate in the creation of a play that they will perform at the end of the week for families and friends.

….Bring along any wild and crazy ideas! All aspects of theater-making will be available to explore, such as making costumes and sets using recycled materials

Summer Camp Information Night
There’s nothing like summer camp at the Y. One session or the whole summer. Indoors and out. On their own or in a group. Archery to arts, canoeing to cannonballs, with the West Suburban YMCA your kids will have an amazing experience, all in a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment.

Registration for After School Programs at the Y for the 2015-16 School Year is Open

Lifeguard Training Class being offered at the West Suburban YMCA

Art, Theatre and Music Workshops

Art, Theatre and Music Vacation Workshops at the Arsenal Center: Watertown’s Arsenal Center for the Arts has February Vacation covered with Monster Mash- Art, Theatre and Music Workshops for children in grades K-5. A Friday afternoon showcase concludes the program.

Visual Art workshops:

  • Morning or Afternoon: Ghosts, Goblins and Ghouls, mixed-media sculpture for Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5.
  • Morning or Afternoon: Monsters, Inc., crazy cartoons, drawing, painting and more for Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5.

Theatre and Music workshops:

  • 9:00 am – 12 noon: Cyclops Singing, Monster Songs & Sounds (Grades K-2),
    Shapeshifting, Monster Acting Academy (Grades 3-5)
  • 1:00 – 4:00 pm:Monster Mischief Acting Academy (Grades K-2), Monsterhouse Sing & Scream (Grades 3-5)
