Open mic night, Thursdays 7-9pm

Brookline Music School faculty Scott Pittman hosts a weekly Open Mic Night at Café Nicholas, 1632 Beacon Street, Brookline in Washington Square from 7:00 to 9:00pm for FREE. Brookline Music School provides a full drum set, amplifiers for bass, guitar and keyboard, and two microphones for the evening. All ages and skill levels are welcome to attend and perform. This is a great opportunity to showcase your talent without the intimidating atmosphere.

 

Spring Programs at Brookline Music School (Jan. 29-June 17)

Brookline Music School’s (BMS) Spring programs begin January 29 and offer a variety of classes and private instruction for all ages and abilities.

BMS welcomes students ages 4 years to adult to study private music lessons on a number of instruments. The school introduced a folk music program that offers group classes for adults and family jams. Music for iPad classes include Garageband for iPad and iPad Band! Jazz/Rock, and Chamber Ensembles are offered year-round for kids, teens and adults. Ensembles provide a unique opportunity to experience the joys of music making with others.

Brookline Music School has a wide array of ensembles for all ages and abilities – with multiple performance opportunities – catering to a variety of musical abilities and interests.

Berklee graduate offers guitar lessons

Berklee College of Music graduate seeks motivated students for private/group guitar lessons in Newton. Lessons are offered in your home on Tuesday evening and Thursday afternoon or evening. All levels are welcome, including beginners.

Through a comprehensive approach that combines technique, ear training, and harmony, I will help your son or daughter develop music skills applicable to all styles of guitar playing. S/he will learn to play and analyze songs and solos from a broad range of musical genres. Working with me, students sharpen their overall musical skills. I also help students interested in song-writing & composition.

Winter art classes beginning at Arsenal Center for the Arts

  • The Arsenal Center for the Arts revs up the new year with a program of winter art classes and workshops beginning the week of January 7. Children’s classes (offered for three age ranges up to teens) include Art Adventures, Clay Projects, Mixed-Media, Comics & Cartoons, Jewelry-making and more. Fun Parent/Child workshops are also available.

    Classes are held at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street in Watertown, with free parking and access to public transportation. Scholarships and Membership discounts are available.

Brookline Music School Open House & Choral Workshop, Jan. 13

The Voice Department of Brookline Music School is pleased to announce its third annual Vocal Workshop for the Junior District Auditions on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 1:00-3:00 pm at 25 Kennard Road in Brookline. This workshop is free and open to all students in the Eastern District who are planning to audition the following weekend.

The voice faculty will rehearse the required piece, drill sight-singing, and offer tips on vocal health and auditioning in this two-hour workshop. RSVP’s are requested from those who plan on participating. RSVP’s should include student’s name, voice part, and school district and should be emailed to the Voice Department Coordinator Bonnie Pomfret.

High School junior available for babysitting, homework help

I am an Oak Hill and Bowen alum and current Rivers School Junior available as a babysitter/parents’ helper many afternoons after school, evenings, and
weekends. I am CPR-certified and enjoy art projects, reading to and with younger children and can help with homework.

Zumba classes at the Hut, starting Jan. 7

Back by popular demand after a very successful fall series: Try a zumba class with Param at the Hut and burn 500-900 calories while having a blast!

New session starts Monday January 7th, 6:45-7:45 pm.
Classes are $8 drop-in or 10 classes for $60.

The Hut is located on Tyler Terrace in Newton Centre, near the Mason-Rice School.

December Recess Sewing Camp, Dec 26-31

Don’t get stuck scrambling to find activities for your children during the December Break.

Send the kids to sewing camp at the Newton Sewing Studio  and let the fun and creativity begin! Beginners and seasoned stitchers will appreciate our mix of fun and useful projects.

Dec 26th through Jan 1st – Half or Full days (9am-1pm; 1pm-5pm)

We welcome kids as young as five and parents are more than welcome to stay and sew with us.
