Newton Cantonese School Open House

All classrooms will be opened for visitors during the open house. The school offers both Conversational and Literacy educational programs for learning Cantonese from Pre-school through 8th grade. Conversational Mandarin class starts at 5th grade in the Literacy program.

Cultural enrichment activities include Martial Arts, Chinese Dance, Chinese Cooking, Arts and Crafts, Chinese Painting, and Table Tennis.

The school is being taught on Saturday mornings during the school year in the Bigelow Middle School at 42 Vernon St. For more information, please contact Principal Agnes Lee at 617-930-3380 and/or school website: www.newtoncantoneseschool.org.

April Vacation is almost here!

April vacation week is coming April 20th – 25th. The Boys & Girls club will be open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm for their vacation program including lots of fun activities, field trips and in-house entertainment. For more information check out the brochure:

New This Year – Cove Theme Days ! Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays camp will meet at The Boys & Girls Club and then travel by bus as a group to the Cove in Auburndale. Each week will highlight a new theme. Campers will participate in special group activities, arts & crafts, sports and science. Breaks for food, hydration, and relaxation are evenly spaced throughout. Camp Goes Swimming Every Day!

NSELL: Registration for T-Ball and Farm is Still Open!

Registration is still open for Newton SouthEast Little League’s Spring 2015 season for the T-ball (kindergarten and younger) and Farm (1st and 2nd Grade) divisions. T-Ball is an introduction to baseball for young players in Kindergarten or entering Kindergarten in the fall of 2015. Farm Division is a noncompetitive program geared toward instruction and fun. NSELL is open to any player who attends any school in our district (even if they reside in a different district).

Note: Newton SouthEast Little League serves players who reside within or attend private or public schools within the public school district boundaries of Memorial-Spaulding, Mason-Rice, Bowen, Angier, Countryside and Zervas.

Performing Arts for Teens

Is your teen interested in theater? Do he/she care about the environment ?

During the 4 days of April Vacation, teens will write and perform a play about taking care of the environment. They’ll have the opportunity to participate in the creation of a play that they will perform at the end of the week for families and friends.

….Bring along any wild and crazy ideas! All aspects of theater-making will be available to explore, such as making costumes and sets using recycled materials

Outdoor Adventure Summer Program 2015

The Outdoor Adventure Summer Program at Nahanton Park still has space available to those who are still looking for summer camp programs! Outdoor Adventure offers 2nd-6th graders a two-week outdoor environmental awareness experience. Come spend time discovering the natural world, making new friends, fishing, canoeing, and playing fun games.

Monday-Friday: 9:00 am-1:00 pm, extended day available until 3:00 pm
Session 1: June 29-July 10 (no camp July 3)
Session 2: July 13- July 24
Session 3: July 27- Aug. 7
Session 3.5 (grades 4-6 only): Aug. 10-14

Newton Youth Players has openings

There are still some openings for kids in grades 1 – 6 in the Newton Youth Players adapted summer production of the all-time favorite hit Oklahoma! with music and Lyrics by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II.

Young actors will work with specialists in drama, music, scenery design and choreography, culminating in a wonderful musical production. Set on a radiant summer morning in Indian Territory during the 19th century, Oklahoma! tells the love story of Laurey and Curly, touching on the conflicting interests between the cattlemen and the farmers of the wild west.

Boston based writiing camp

Summer Ink, a Boston-based writing day camp for 5th through 10th grade students, has openings in several programs. Summer Ink campers play sports, participate in arts activities, take field trips throughout Boston, and write about their experiences. Trained classroom teachers help students of all levels focus their writing and find their unique voice. Two-week sessions at Simmons College in July. Scholarships available; please apply early.
