Summer rowing on the Charles at CRI Co-Ed Clinics

Summer rowing for ages 12-18!

Learn to Row – Everyone begins here: covers a complete introduction to the sport of rowing including rowing/coxing technique as well as boat safety. The goal of the program is to develop a solid foundation of skills, taught in a fun and supportive environment. Clinics run in 2-week sessions, morning or afternoon, throughout the summer. Clinics begin June 15th.

Skills Development: for rowers who have completed Learn to Row and want to continue building their skills and improving rowing technique. The clinics will focus on improving rowing skill and preparing rowers for future competition. Clinics run in 2-week sessions, morning or afternoon, throughout the summer. Financial aid available.

Intro to the ‘Craft of Fiction Writing’ Class

In July, Next Level Up will be hosting an exciting, engaging, creative and collaborative opportunity for budding writers who would like to be immersed in the craft of creating their own fiction. Students will take part in many interactive, thought provoking, and fun writing activities. There will be a heavy focus on developing all elements of a fictional story, in addition to word choice, sentence structure, figurative language, and revision. Roman Totenberg Memorial Concert

Dedicated to the Memory of Ronald Knudsen, Music Director and Conductor of the New Philharmonia Orchestra

With featured performers:

The Roman Totenberg Memorial Concert is a program of the Festival of the Arts – a month long, citywide celebration and showcase of Newton’s talented citizens and organizations. Proceeds from the Festival will help support Newton’s four food pantries, nonprofit arts and cultural organizations as well as cultivating Newton’s young artists.

Newton Dance Concert

The month-long Festival of the Arts continues its celebration and showcase of Newton artists, with Newton Dance Concert, the first known concert of dance companies based in Newton. Participating groups include CreationDance, directed by Helena Froehlich, Dance Currents Inc., directed by Kathy Hassinger, Selmadanse, directed by Joanie Block, and Thaillai Fine Arts Academy, directed by Sunanda Narayanan.

The Festival of the Arts is a month long, citywide celebration and showcase of Newton’s talented citizens and organizations. There are sixty events throughout the month that cover almost every art form. Proceeds from the Festival will help support Newton’s four food pantries, nonprofit arts and cultural organizations as well as cultivating Newton’s young artists. Waban Village Day – Come join the fun!

Village Day will be kicked off by the 10th Annual Family Fun Run at 10:00 am. Racers of all ages are encouraged to participate, including children who are allowed to ride bikes and scooters along the 3.1 mile race course. All racers must check-in and register at the Fun Run table in Waban Square at 9:00 am. The registration fee is $20/individual or $50/family (up to 3 members) and includes the race day T-shirt(s), which will be “technical” fabric this year to help celebrate our 10th Fun Run!

At Village Day, this year we are pleased to announce that world-renowned saxophonist, Philippe Cretien, and his quartet will be headlining this year’s entertainment. In addition to his professional group, Cretien is also bringing his student ensembles, including the award-winning Rivers Jazz Combo & Big Band. The Newton Family Singers will return for the 4th time performing selections from their recent Beatles tribute and Waiting for Neal, featuring Waban’s own husband and wife team of Monique Byrne and Andy Rogovin, will close out the day.
