Newton PorchFest 2019: Signups are now open

Signups for Newton PorchFest 2019, scheduled for June 1st (raindate June 2nd) are now open.

PorchFest is an afternoon of free music performed outside of people’s homes. Last year’s inaugural event included 60+ bands. You can participate by signing up to play (all musicians of all types are welcome), host (residents of Auburndale, Lower Falls or Waban), or volunteer.

Newton SEPAC presents Mental Health in Children and Adolescents with Developmental Disabilities

Join Newton’s SEPAC to hear from a leading expert in psychiatry about the prevalence of mental health disorders among children and young adults with developmental disabilities and autism. Dr. Kerim Munir will provide data and recommendations to parents based on his research and experience in this field.

Dr. Munir, MD, MPH, DSc is the Director of Psychiatry at the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, which is a Division of Developmental Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. He is also an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

Newton Kindergarten Soccer registration is open!

For 25 years, Kindergarten Soccer has been introducing children to soccer in a fun and non-competitive environment where they develop friendships, learn teamwork and gain confidence. Games are Saturday mornings at Oak Hill Middle School, April 27th – June 15th.

Senior Youth baseball program

The Newton Senior Youth Baseball League, founded in 1980 to serve Newton’s middle school aged children as a baseball league devoted to introducing players to the larger baseball diamond after Little League, is now open for spring registration.

The Newton Senior Youth Baseball League is a City of Newton program sponsored by the Newton Parks and Recreation Department. Player evaluations are held on March 24th, and a schedule of between 12 and 14 games will begin after April vacation. Chem tutor available

Improve your grade in your Chemistry course. Prepare yourself for SAT2 Chemistry exam. Lida Famili, a retired Milton Academy Chemistry teacher, is offering tutoring in Chemistry courses and SAT2 Chemistry test. Lida has taught Chemistry for 25 years and has dozens of references. From 4 year old air guitarists to 14 year-old Fender shredders, these music camps will have your cool kids rockin’ the summer away! Weekly Sessions start in June and run through August!

Kidzrock Camp for ages 4-7, Half-Day Camp. Kidzrock is a nationally recognized “jam-focused” program that has young kids living out their rock‘n’roll fantasy and playing together quickly! Band members rotate on drums, electric guitar, and keyboards, and each camp week culminates with a concert by the bands!

Jr Rockerz Camp for ages 8-11, Full-Day Camp.  Jr. Rockerz Camp is all about rockin’ out, writing songs, and playing tons of musical games! Instruments offered are: guitar, keyboards, bass, drums, and vocals. Each week long session ends with a concert performance for your friends and family!

Teen Bandz Camp for ages 12-16, Full-Day Camp. Teenbandz Camp is where teens come to play, meet others, join a band, write a song, and get comfortable making music in a group. A great respite from a busy summer or sleep-away camps. Now offering DJ/production classes, and uke groups too! Each band also gets to perform at a concert at the end of their session!

Camp Grossman Open House

Come and visit Camp Grossman for the day.  Explore the 75 pine-studded acres of Hale Reservation with staff led tours of the waterfront, bunk areas and so much more. Meet with senior staff and see what a day at Camp Grossman is like!
