Benefit Concert for Centre Street Food Pantry, Oct. 28
The Laura Grill Band, a self-described “jazz infected folk band,” will give a benefit concert on behalf of the Centre St. Food Pantry.

“And Then There Were None” at Watertown Children’s Theatre
The Watertown Children’s Theatre presents “And Then There Were None,” October 26 (7pm), 27 (1pm) and 28 (1pm).
Enjoy Agatha Christie’s classic about a group of weekend guests who are summoned to a private island, only to discover their eccentric millionaire host is nowhere to be found. The guests each have a wicked past they’re unwilling to reveal – and a secret that will seal their fate.
Open House and Instrument “Petting Zoo” Oct. 21
Join Brookline Music School on Sunday, October 21, for this interactive and fun day of sampling several different instruments and enjoying live music by a world-renown faculty and outstanding students during the Lincoln School “Pumpkinfest.”
At our Instrument Petting Zoos (1:00-3:00pm at Brookline Music School), children and adults are given the opportunity to listen to and play a wide range of instruments, including woodwinds, brass, strings, guitar, piano, drums, percussion, harp and accordion. Students and faculty will perform during Pumpkinfest (12:30-4:00pm at Lincoln School). Free.
Brookline Music School faculty artists series, Oct. 20
The Brookline Music School (BMS) kicks off its Faculty Artists Series with “Sempre Schubert” by the Thoreau Piano Trio with BMS faculty Paul Jacobs on piano, guest artists Susan Jensen on violin and Darry Dolezal on cello, both members of Esterhazy Quartet. Admission is free.
Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7:30pm. The concert will present a mix of chamber works by Franz Schubert (1797-1828). The BMS is located at 25 Kennard Road, Brookline.
The Faculty Artist Series features a colorful spectrum of musical backgrounds to include jazz, folk, classical and ethnic styles. More details on the BMS website.

Seeking help for upcoming Indian Festival
The Mayor’s Office for Cultural Affairs is hosting an Indian Festival at the Newton Cultural Center on Saturday, Nov. 10th from 10am – 5pm. It is going to be a wonderful event showcasing many of the tastes, music, dance, games and crafts of India. One of the elements is a fashion show.
We are looking for Indian families who would be willing to show off the attire or costume from their region. The fashion show will take place at 3pm. Please contact Jeannie Smith at 617-527-8283 if you would like to participate. We would be delighted to include you.
Newton Centre Harvest Fair: Oct. 13 & 14
Celebrate Fall in Newton at the 37th annual Harvest Fair in Newton on Newton Centre Green, at Langley Rd. & Centre St.
Saturday, Oct. 13, 10am – 5pm, kiddie amusement rides, sand art and face painting.
Sunday, Oct. 14, 10am – 5pm — something for everyone! Kiddie amusement rides, free pumpkin decorating, 150 craft booths, delicious ethnic and American food, the “Big Feat” Memorial Walk of the Circle of Caring at Hospice of the Good Shepherd, and live entertainment all day. Performances are by local dancers and musicians.

Make your mark on Newton — be part of Newton’s first sanctioned Street Art Project!
Join Newton Highlands merchants and artists in creating the city’s first-ever Road Mural on Lincoln Street. Painters in grades 3-8 are needed to help our adult artists fill in eco-themed murals to highlight all that is “green” in Newton–and make the street more fun and safer for walkers!
Choose a one-hour time slot on Sunday, October 14, between 1 pm and 4 pm. All traffic will be foot only for the duration of the painting. Adult helpers welcome.

Newton Cultural Festivals: Indian, Chinese, Latin

We have had a Russian Festival, we are in the early planning stages of a Chinese Festival for February 10 and a Latin Festival for March 23. We can plan these festivals more effectively with the help of families from these cultures and we would like to invite you to our planning meetings. Please join us at the Newton Cultural Center, 225 Nevada Street, Newtonville. The meeting for the Chinese Festival is October 16 at 7:45pm. The meeting for the Latin Festival is October 22 at 6:30pm.
