Historic Newton Hayfest: Sunday Oct 6th 12-4pm

Bigelow Parent Alexander Lee invites the Bigelow community to Hayfest, Historic Newton’s annual fall festival, on Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 12-4pm.

Join them for a free, family-friendly day of fall fun! Travel back in and explore life in 19th century Newton, featuring:

  • Apple cider pressing
  • Basket weaving
  • Butter making
  • Candle dipping
  • Corn husk doll crafting
  • Naturally dyeing cloth
  • Games
  • Fiddle music by Karen Burciaga
  • Raffle prizes
  • Refreshments

Activities are held in the backyard of the Jackson Homestead, 527 Washington St.

PTO Meeting Recap

Thank you to all who attended our first PTO meeting of the 2024-25 school year on Tuesday evening! It was great to see both new and familiar faces and discuss how best to support our school and build community. We had a long discussion with lots of great ideas for events and how to organize them. FUEL Supplemental Food Program

Food insecurity is a real issue and an issue in our own community.  No family should have to go hungry and no child should suffer because the food budget is tight.

Bigelow offers a program called FUEL.  It provides a weekend’s worth of non-perishable food for students each week with easy to prepare and healthy meals.  Food is shopped for and packed each week by volunteers from a local church and delivered to the school in bags for students to bring home (or parents to pick up).  The bags are generally delivered mid-week and sent home on Fridays (in nondescript bags), unless other arrangements are made to pick it up from Bigelow.  

If this supplemental food program could help your family, please contact the nurse, Sue Schy, at Bigelow, schys@newton.k12.ma.us, or your child’s guidance counselor.  All requests are kept confidential.
