Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Mayor Fuller will be hosting the 3rd annual ceremonial flag raising at Newton City Hall on September 5th at 5:30 pm. See the flyer here: Flag Raising Ceremony

The event often brings forth a great deal of emotion and sense of purpose. You will hear from families, physicians, non-profits and other neighbors who are part of the childhood cancer community. This beautiful and heartfelt event will help elevate all of the efforts to rid the world of this evil disease.

Newton CPC New Art Center Report and 300 Hammond Pond Parkway/Webster Woods Public Hearing

The Newton Community Preservation Committee will meet to hear a report on the New Art Center’s historic preservation plan and hold a public hearing and potential funding vote on $100,000 for professional services related to the preservation of open space at 300 Hammond Pond Parkway/Webster Woods.

Open House and free yoga class for Middle School students

Middle School students are invited to join a free yoga class during the upcoming open house. Specifically geared for busy middle schoolers, this class is a welcome respite and a space to learn how yoga can both build strength of body and mind in a supportive, fun environment. Class is taught by Amy Hrobak, a popular yoga instructor and an experienced middle school counselor (LICSW).

Boy Scouts

Troop 182 invites all youth ages 10 to 17 to their annual Open House.

Troop 182, founded in 1913, has a proud heritage and is one of the longest serving troops in the country. They are sponsored by the Kiwanis Club in Wellesley and serve youth from Wellesley and surrounding communities including Newton.

Troop 182 is a very welcoming boy-led troop that is proud of its more than 120 Eagle Scouts.  They’ll have snacks and beverages, as well as a Q&A session, an introduction to the Troop and its members, and an overview of the activities they participate in at the Open House.

Youth pro Musica enrollment now open

Choir sign-ups now open for grades 2-12! Does your child love to sing? Youth pro Musica offers 3 levels of children’s choirs providing high quality instruction in classical style choral music, 3-5 concerts a year, and an end of season performance trip to New York City.

Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays in West Newton: grades 2-5, 4:30 – 5:30 pm; grades 5-8, 6:00 – 7:30 pm; grades 9-12, 7:45 – 9:15 pm.

Maldi Kellici, a Berklee College of Music graduate with 12 plus years of teaching experience, is seeking a limited number of students for private/group guitar lessons. Lessons are offered in your home. All levels are welcome, including beginners. Through a comprehensive approach that combines technique, ear training and fretboard harmony, he will help your son or daughter develop music skills applicable to all styles of guitar playing.

Newton Destination Imagination Registration OPEN

The 2018 – 2019 Season for Newton Destination Imagination (DI) is open!  Click HERE to register. Newton DI is an inclusive STEAM- based creative problem solving competition for students in grades K-12.
