Public Radio Host, Cancer Researcher, Social Enterprise Expert, Kick Off 2016 Newton Inspires

Twenty-one Newton luminaries will regale audiences at Newton Schools Foundation’s sixth annual  Newton Inspires: An Evening of Ideas and Community, Since 2011,
Newton Inspires has gathered Newton residents for an evening of discussion with some of our community’s best and brightest.

This year’s program features headliners NPR’s Tom Ashbrook; MIT Koch Institute’s Tyler Jacks, Entrepreneur and Social Enterprise Philanthropist Dick Simon; 7NEWS Sports Director Joe Amorosino; Harvard Business School Professor Kathleen McGinn; Chef David Punch; and food writer Andrea Pyenson; along with more than a dozen other Newton stars.

Newton Inspires is FREE to Newton residents and $15 for non-residents. Space is limited so register early. The event is on Monday, November 14th, 7:00 – 9:30 pm at Newton South High School. Refreshments will be served.

Upcoming Teen Programs @ the Library

Typewriter Poetry –  October 17th, 7:00 pm, second floor Teen Area: Get creative with the monthly Typewriter Poetry group. Get together to use old-school typewriters and write poems for library patrons on the spot! The group will meet in the Library on the third Monday of every month. Grades 7-12.

Zombie Cupcakes – October 19th, second floor Teen Area: Decorate cupcakes for Halloween! Try to make the grossest, scariest cupcakes. Join the fun!

3D Printing Workshop – October 27th, 4:00 pm, second floor Computer Center: Come design something to print on the library’s 3D printer! Grades 7-12. Register online.

Sign Up To Volunteer at The Memorial Spaulding Playground Community Build.

Are you or someone in your family a Memorial Spaulding Elementary alumni? Or maybe you’re a Newton resident looking for a great way to get involved in a community project. They’re building an amazing new playground and looking for volunteers to help during the community build October 20th -23rd. No construction experience necessary, there will be something for everyone to do. All volunteers must be 18+ and no children are allowed at the construction site. Music for Food

The Conservatory at Highlands continues its community event series with
Departure Duo performing and discussing Music for Food, a musician-led initiative for local hunger relief. Donations and canned goods will be accepted at the door. All proceeds go to Centre Street Food Pantry.

Departure is a Boston-based soprano and double bass duo comprised of Nina Guo and Edward Kass. Committed to expanding the repertoire for the “high-low” partnership, Departure commissions and performs new works. Read more.

Newton Family & Friends Ski Trip – Bolton Valley March 3rd – 5th

Randy Friedman, father of two boys in the Newton schools and Director of Ski & Travel for an adult ski, sports, and social club here in Boston, invites you on a friends and family ski trip. If you are interested please see below.

Bolton Valley is set amidst 5,000 acres of Vermont’s most spectacular Green Mountain vistas with the highest base elevation of any Vermont ski resort. In addition to skiing and riding from its 3,150-foot summit, the recreational opportunities are as numerous as the views are spectacular. Whether your interest is skiing or snowboarding, telemark or Nordic, backcountry or night skiing or just a relaxing snowshoe in the woods, BV has it all in abundance. Bolton Valley offers 71 trails and glades for Alpine skiing and riding and 100km of Nordic and backcountry trails. Bolton Valley Ski Resort is the perfect location for the entire family.

*3 people to a room – $670 (2 adult, 1 child 7-17)
*4 people to a room – $820 (2 adult, 2 child 7-17)

Add $150 for child (7-17) over 4 people in a room
Add $160 for adult (17+) over 4 people in a room
