Lace up for the Mason-Rice Alumni Fun Run on June 13th!

Host families needed
Dear Parents:
As part of the school district’s efforts to expand its global education program, Newton South High School has invited several international students to join us for the 2016-2017 school year. Through this program, NSHS has and will continue to receive excellent students from around the world. We really need the community’s help with this mission. Many Newton families have become host families to these students, and this has really proved to be a fantastic experience.
To help us attract host families, Newton Public Schools is working with Educatius International, a corporate partner on this program. As a host family, you receive a monthly stipend of between $800-$1000 per month. Educatius asks that you provide a loving and supportive family environment. This is a wonderful and educational experience for everyone involved and often leads to lifelong friendships.
We are very proud that these students select Newton South from among many other fine high schools in the state. Sing Out Newton!
A Free Community Sing Along hosted by the Newton Family Singers. Join friends, family and community members next Sunday at 3:00 pm for our first ever outdoor sing along at the Hyde Community Center bandstand, 90 Lincoln Street, Newton Highlands. All are invited to this free, family friendly musical event of the year!
There is a stellar roster of stars coming out to lead us in song, including Kate Seeger, niece of legendary folk singer Pete Seeger and musician in her own right, Newton Family Singers’ Artistic Director, Chris Eastburn, and 11-year-old child prodigy Fiddlin’ Quinn Eastburn, among others!
But despite the stars on stage, this event is all about community and sharing songs as one voice. We’ll be singing recognizable, timeless and meaningful folk songs by Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly and other greats.

Newton Theatre Company presents “The Importance of Being Earnest”
Two local theater companies – Newton Theatre Company and Newton Nomadic Theater have joined forces on Oscar Wilde’s beloved comedy, which treats triviality of the utmost social importance, and “minor” themes such as marriage, education and morality as inconsequential matters. The results are a comedy of the highest order. Jack and Algy, two ne’er-do-well best friends, live double lives. They are upright citizens in certain social circles, and rascals under the same pseudonym of Ernest everywhere else! When their façade is discovered the hilarity begins!
