Beware this Halloween! Ghoulish and ghostly paintings will appear on 500 merchant windows in 6 Newton villages! 180 Newton merchants have generously offered their windows for the past 18 years to eager young artists to paint Halloween-themed paintings on an assigned window. Sometimes they are funny, sometimes creepy, always fabulous!
The parents have as much fun as the kids as they gather in the village centers, sharing coffees and treats and enjoying watching the loving creation of the masterpieces! As a result, you will identify ways to respond in more “mindful” ways that bring about connection, clarity, and mutual understanding in your family. You will get to think about real-life situations, practice new ways of thinking and responding, and assess your responses during our classes so that you walk away more confident, competent and mindful as a parent and person. International Walk to School week is coming up the first week of October and International Walk to School Day (iWalk) will be celebrated on October 4th at most schools.
Ask at your school about plans to encourage safe walking and biking to school all year.
This year, the Newton Public Schools will provide interested elementary school families with opportunities, information and resources on talking to children about issues of race, culture, and identity. This work will be personalized to individual school communities, based upon needs and interest.

Kids Night Out – October 6th, 6:00 – 10:00 pm
Drop off your kids ages 7-13 for a fun Friday night with YMCA qualified childcare staff. They order pizza for dinner and keep the children entertained with games, swimming, movies and sports. $25 per child for WSYMCA members and $30 for non-members. A 20% discount is offered per child for those with two or more children. Go out for the night and take advantage of this low-cost alternative to hiring a babysitter.
