3rd Annual Family Book Event

Registration Open for the 3rd Annual Family Book Event with Author Rob Buyea
Understanding Our Differences will hold its 3rd Annual Family Book Event on Tuesday, October 21st at 7:00 pm at Newton South High School Auditorium. The featured author is Rob Buyea, who will talk about and sign his popular, award-winning middle grade novel, Because of Mr. Terupt. The book follows the stories of seven 5th grade students, their insightful new teacher, and his impact on students of all abilities.

Fall Festival at Newton Community Farm, Sept. 28

The Newton Community Farm is holding its annual Fall Festival on Sunday, September 28.  Enjoy live music, farm tours, children’s activities, farm produce, baked goods, delicious food, and more. New this year:  apple pie judging contest and prized vegetable contest (bring the best from your home garden)

Raised Healthy Wealthy & Wise: Lessons from successful and grounded inheritors on how they got that way

Have you ever wondered how to give your kids money without spoiling them? Or, how to teach them how to lead a purposeful life? Then, please come to hear Covie Edwards-Pitt, a Waban resident and nationally recognized advisor on these and other issues where money and family come together. Covie will be selling and signing her book, and will be available to answer questions. The Waban Library Center is a volunteer run community library. Your $5.00 donation is what helps them stay open.

Paddy’s Road Race, Oct. 19

Paddy’s Road Race, The Shillelagh Shuffle, will take place on Sunday, October 19, in West Newton. The race is committed to youth fitness and offers both youth field races as well as a 1K (.62) mile. This is a great local opportunity for students to train for their first road race.

This West Newton tradition supports the Athletes Unlimited program, one of the largest community-based therapeutic recreation programs for people with disabilities in all of New England. Many athletes from the program participate in this road race making the Shillelagh Shuffle truly an inclusive and unique event.

The Youth Field Races & Kids Festival includes medals for all finishers, commemorative #1 bibs for all participants, inflatables, face painting and more. This races cater to ages 1-12.

The 1K Youth & All Abilities Race caters to youth 14 & under and athletes with disabilities of all ages. All participants in this race receive a t-shirt, medal, and timed results.

The 3-mile race is capped at 2,500 participants this year. The race and post-race BlocktoberFest has all the touches of Ireland including bagpipes, Irish step dancers and shillelaghs. The race is even giving away two tickets to Ireland this year.

Paddles and Pumpkins

The Crystal Lake Conservancy and the Newton Parks and Recreation Department invite you to join a Sunday afternoon of activities on Crystal Lake. Participants will sign up for half hour slots between 2:00 – 4:30 pm to enjoy the pleasures of canoeing/kayaking/paddleboarding. In addition all can enjoy catching strung up donuts, drinking fresh cider and decorating your own free pumpkin!!

Learn about Crystal Lake Conservancy’s ongoing initiatives in water testing and watershed education. Learn about the new NO Phosphorus law and how decreasing pollutants flowing into the Lake will reduce the possibility of future algae blooms. See the newly posted watershed signs up on every street in the Crystal Lake Watershed. Learn about ongoing testing and watershed activities to protect Crystal Lake!!

Newtonville Village Day & Jazz Festival

Discover Newtonville, and all its merchants and businesses that will open their doors to welcome neighbors and visitors!  Walnut Street in Newtonville will be closed to traffic and transformed into a lively street fair. With two sound stages, a Roaming Railroad for kiddie rides, 100 craft booths and informational stands, an Open House at the Norumbega Fraternity Lodge of Masons featuring a bounce house and carnival games and fun activities for kids, there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

The Senior Center Sound Stage features a talented line-up of jazz musicians, sponsored by New England Jazz Productions. The Austin Street Sound Stage will also delight the crowds with an afternoon of performances by local dance studios, martial arts demonstrations and local young musicians. Pumpkin Patch at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport!

Bring the whole family to the Seashore Trolley Museum for the 16th Annual Pumpkin Patch Trolley! Hop aboard a vintage streetcar to the Pumpkin Patch, find your favorite pumpkin and decorate it, and win some prizes playing games at the fall carnival. Once you’ve scored the prizes you’re after, finish up your streetcar ride and then enjoy roaming the Museum grounds. Your pumpkin will be tagged for you to pick up at the Visitors’ Center before you leave. Seashore Trolley Museum is the world’s oldest and largest electric railway museum. Father Daughter Dance

Dancing with the Brookline Stars invites you to join a Father Daughter Dance at the Brookline Teen Center for 8th graders and younger. On Sunday, October 12th from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm,  share a fun filled evening with your little girl including a DJ, games, food, photographs & more! Semi-formal attire requested.
