Singing from the Heart of Harmony

Explore the heart of harmony singing by ear through learning novel and exciting ways to listen. Discover how to create your own harmonies by listening to the rich overtones of crystal singing bowls, chanting together, learning to hear chords, singing in parts, and developing your own harmony paths.  No music theory will be used–it’s truly all by ear and heart!

Instructors: Jan Maier, BSN, MPH,  harmony workshop leader and Joan Caplan, LICSW,  choral conductor, chant leader, crystal singing bowl artist, singer, vocal coach and writer.

Newton Youth Hockey

Registration for Newton Youth Hockey’s Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs is now open.

Learn to Skate

This program is intended for kids who are new to skating or need further work on skating basics. The focus is on having fun while teaching them through games and other activities. We work on getting up, balancing, pushing, gliding and stopping. There is one practice per week. NYH runs two 9 week sessions. The first session starts November 22nd at Daly Rink.

Learn to Play

This is the introduction to hockey program. Participants need the full complement of hockey pads. The program will build on skating skills, and introduce hockey stops, cross overs, more advanced balancing, stick use and puck handling, etc. Kids are placed into the program based on their birth year. From there, they are assigned teams and will continue with those same teams for the whole season. 3D Animation Academy

Newton Animation & Video’s 3D Animation Academy for Kids next session starts on November 17th. Classes for grades 4 to 6 will be held on Mondays from 3:30 – 5:15 pm and for grade 6 and higher from 6:30 – 8:15 pm. These beginner classes will be pre-requisites for certain intermediate and advanced level courses set to begin in January 2015. LEGO Art Exhibit Coming to Faneuil Hall Marketplace

The Art of the Brick, the self-proclaimed world’s largest display of LEGO art, is coming to Boston’s Faneuil Hall Marketplace. The exhibit will open October 2 and runs through early January.

Group rates are available for organizations who want to take a field trip (scout troops, after-school programs, etc). More information is available at the “Boston Bricks” website.

Suzuki Preschool Open House

The Suzuki Preschool of Newton will be hosting an open house. This event is free and open to the public. This a great opportunity to come and acquaint yourself with their integrated arts curriculum, meet the teachers and staff and receive a guided tour of the facility. The Suzuki Preschool offers Suzuki music daily by trained Suzuki musicians.
